There are many ways in which you can go about doing this. You can go through Six degrees (However annoying that may be.) If you are a member of sixdegrees all you have to do is click on join the group now, but if not you will have to become a member of sixdegrees, and while its a great group it can be annoying, and then go back and click on join this group.
ps. you can do all three if you are Really bored.
Next thing, you can go to Onelist and join there. You would be able to get group news when I actually send news out. And don't worry your mail box will NOT be flooded with anoying crap...I hardly ever send stuff out.

Also for those of you who are really into the activist scene you can start your own chapter wherever you are. The main Chapter is and was founded in the boring town of North Brunswick, NJ. So if you would like to start a chapter in NJ..it would really depend on where you are. However, I am looking towards expanding FREE's reach, so those of you out of state(meaning not in NJ) who happen to be interested, please feel free to email me and we shall chat.
