For those of you who are wondering, what the hell is FREE? Here is your answer: FREE stands for Freedom Rights for Equal Expression. Although a relatively new organization, FREE stands for the struggles that have been present from the beginning of time.
FREE is dedicated to making society aware of the basic rights denied to the youth(yet not exclusivly) of today. This organization pushes for helping create a better way for the voices of the oppressed to speak out. For any of you who have been told to shut up because your �too young� or �you don�t have enough experience�, you know how it feels to not have your rightful voice. FREE is a political party like system of fighting against the wrongs of the government and society.( or as Karen puts it, my "quest to better the political America")
This is a type of group that pushes for free rights for everyone. FREE is a group that is dedicated to helping anyone who wants to speak out about things that they have been silenced for, to make society aware of the voices of teenagers in this country, voices that have been long silenced, and to the ending of all prejudices, after all we are the voice of the future. For those that have ever been opprosed by the norms of society, then FREE can be understood. FREE is for anyone who does not want to conform to today's standards, and for those who do not agree with society. For those who want to send a different message and make things easier for the 'different' people, this is a group for you. As a FREE member you can express your ideas as you like, to advance the movement, or to just bring your ideas to people like you. The basic concept of FREE is choice, that how you live your life is your choice. As Voltaire said "I will disprove what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
So, opinions I hold (and this does not mean you have to agree); The Government, Media, and society is corrupt. The top 5 new stations are owned by 4 companies. It therefore is the burden of the thinking society (for the "moral majority" do not think only do what past generations have told them)to attempt to alter a corrupt system. Today's Caplitalism by definition is a society where 10% of the population controls 90% of the wealth. Capitalism promotes a system where the mass and base of the population is held down, oppressed if you will, while the rich and powerful few control almst all aspects of society. However, we must work within the system to change the system (sorry anarchists). The reason for the poverty and despartaion of the thrid world is, unfortunately, the first world (ie: the Industrialized Countries).
Extreamly pro enviromental (I work for the PIRG's, Free the Planet, and sometimes Sierra Club). I simply don't understand why most of the world (mainly the US and its "interests") refues to protect and care for the one thing which truly supports us. Without the EARTH, we DIE. None of this "oh we will colonize other planets" bullshit. Technology will not save us. If we destroy the earth we destroy ourselves. If for not other reason then our own selfishness the human race should take notice to preserve our own existance. Private Interests (ei: Corporations!!!!) always put profits over life; both with people and the environment. Yet another system that needs to be reformed.
Hummm, what else, pro choice, The school, education, whatever system must be reformed and the electorial college & Affirmative action must be abolished. Sorry, affirmative action and gender quotas do NOT work any more, only serve to widen the gape between races. Beware of the concept that the majority is right, for that is not always true. Education about the real issues, and not media blown hype, should be institued..the media only believes what they are told and then reports it to the masses.
For as Jean Jacques Rosseau said, the goal of any government is to secure freedom, equality, and justice for all within the state, regardless of the will of the majority.
