Fast-Loading Time

Id say that this site loads at a decent rate.  That would be because I dont use may colors and the file sizes of the few graphics I use are small.  For an efficient way to cut down on the size of your graphics, I suggest you goto gifcruncher.com I use it on my graphics.

As far as MIDIs go, I suggest you totally cut them out or considerably limit your use of them.  They do load fast if they are small, though, and can be a cool effect.  But especially if someone has a slow computer, it can cause conflicts and even make their computer freeze up.

Java Applets:  Very cool and interesting, but can cause a webpage to load very slowly.  Certain ones are completely fine, like applets for icons and stuff.

One thing that is a major misconception among many people is that just because a page loads fast on one computer means itll do exactly the same on others.  Not true, believe me.  Ignore how fast a page seems to load on your computer.  Instead, pay attention to how big your graphics files are, etc.  And there are places on the web you can go to get the approximate number of seconds your webpage takes to load on different modems. Remember this important fact:  One of the main reasons a person will leave a site is because of long loading time.
