A NEW MALTESE SCHOOL IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi and Mrs Catherine Gonzi visited Australia from the 28 July to 12 August 2007. During his visit, the Prime Minister met members of the Maltese Community in Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia, Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales. The Prime Minister pledged action to keep Maltese language alive in Australia. The Prime Minister was responding to remarks made by the honorary consul in Adelaide Frank L Scicluna who warned that future migrant generations would lose their identity if they did not know the language. Extract from the website of the Maltese Association of Western Australia Incorporated http://www.malteseawa.org.au/

With the initiative of the President, Mr. Jim Plowman, the secretary Judy Pavia and the delegate Gerry Pule the Maltese Association of Western Australia will be establishing a new Maltese School at their new and beautiful community centre.A qualified teacher has already been approached and this teacher is willing to commence Maltese classes in August. On behalf of all the delegates and Maltese schools of Australia I welcome the new school and wish the committee of the Association every success in this new venture.
