    Honorary Consul for Malta in South Australia

    PFrank was born in Vittoriosa (Birgu) Malta but spent most of his childhood and youth at Santa Venera. He migrated to Australia in 1965 and commenced his teaching career at Simon Stock College, Wentworthville, New South Wales. Frank obtained his Australian citizenship on 24 June 1992.

    In 1973 he moved to South Australia after successfully winning a position with the Department of Education and Children�s Services. For over 30 years, he was a teacher of Mathematical Sciences, English as a Second Language, Classical History, Italian and Latin in various secondary schools and colleges around the State of South Australia.

    Frank is the headmaster of the Maltese Language School of Adelaide, a position which he held for 20 years. He was elected President of the Ethnic Schools Association of South Australia Incorporated and held that position for 6 years. In 1993 he was elected the first national president of the Australian Federation of Ethnic Schools Associations (AFESA) - an umbrella body which fosters cohesion and educational consolidation between the 1400 community language schools across the country.

    Frank served on several ministerial boards including the Ethnic School Board and SA Secondary Schools of Languages. He was the editor of the Ethnic Schools in Focus � the official publication of the ethnic Schools Association. The minister of Education appointed Mr. Scicluna Professional Development Officer and during his term of office he planned and executed a comprehensive educational program for teachers of ethnic schools.

    The most challenging position for him was that of president of the Maltese Community Council of South Australia which he held for over three years. In 1993, during his presidency, the Council of S.A held the second National Conference of the Federation of Maltese Councils of Australia in Adelaide. It was attended by representatives of several Maltese Councils from other States.

    Mr. Scicluna was appointed Justice of the Peace for the State of South Australia in 1991.

    He read papers and delivered lectures on the teaching of community languages in every State and Territory - including the Australian National University [ACT], Languages and Multicultural Unit (Hectorville - SA), Tasmanian Greek Centre, Perth's Convention Centre, Sydney Convention Centre (Darling Harbour), Ukrainian Community Centre (Richmond - Victoria) and LOTE Centre in Brisbane. He published numerous articles and papers on local and interstate papers and magazines including The Maltese Herald, Language Matters (ACT), EBI News, Ethnic Schools in Focus and The Times of Malta.

    Frank is the author of three publications - Professional Development Course for Teachers of Community Languages (SA Educ. Dept - 1994), the 1997 Maltese Directory and Information Booklet and the 2004 Maltese Directory and Information Booklet.

    Frank created, and still maintaining, the website of the Maltese Language School of Adelaide - Building Virtual Bridges (http://www.geocities.com/frans311) - a historical and cultural link between Malta and Australia.

    Mr. Scicluna was appointed by the Government of the Republic of Malta an Honorary Consul for Malta in South Australia in February 2003 at the recommendation of the Malta High Commissioner, His Excellency Dr. Ivan Fsadni.

    Frank is married to Josie and they have three children Marika, Tanya and David.
    On Australia Day 2008 Frank Scicluna received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) from the Government of Australia for the services he rendered to the Maltese community particularly for the teaching and retention of the Maltese language and for multicultural education in Australia.
