Officially, it's spelled Foxborough - NOT Foxboro - That's the spelling I learned and grew up with, so I use it! Foxborough is a great hometown - We have a rich history, a state forest, excellent schools, lots of recreation areas and fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, an old "swimming hole", lots of places to ride bikes to, skateboard, and in-line skate, a great library, an historical museum, an old Powderhouse, and lots more. Foxborough State Hospital - Jnctn. Chestnut and Baker Streets. -
Also known as Massachusetts Hospital for Dipsomaniacs & Inebriates : Note, the campus is being redeveloped and there was a large fire in some of the buildings on July 14, 2006.

Some Cool Facts
- Our "For Sale" Fire Station, currently located on the common, no longer has a working Fire Horn! It was an awesome facet of the town as we automatically know if there's a problem in our neighborhood even if we're elsewhere in town. It was always a most welcome sound to hear the "2-2-2" bells go off on a snowy morning because as kids it meant "NO SCHOOL" ;-). The horn also sounded at 6.30 a.m. and p.m. ; a good way to know when to come home for dinner and a pleasant wake-up call in the morning.
- In addition to the now silenced Fire Horn, Bethany Church has working bells in its steeple. We never had a need for a watch as the time was known by the church bells on the hour and half-hours. Another nice hometown feature!

The Foxborough Town Common is the heart of a true rotary! It serves as
a gathering spot for many and contains numerous historic markers such as
War Memorials, the old Meeting House location, and is a nice place to relax.

Historic Markers can be found throughout town, usually on ~ 6 or 7 foot tall
black markers. There's one at Morse's Corner on North Street, some at Rockhill
Cemetery, and more - just look you'll see one sooner or later.

The town was once home to the largest straw hat manufacturers of the time
- all was going well until straw met heat annd the place burned down.
- Oake Knoll Farm (a/k/a Lawton's Farm) was founded by Jedediah Morse in 1734 and is a "Massachusetts Century Farm"
- There were cranberry bogs in town!
- There are still working farms here.
- Rev. Thomas Kendall was ordained as the first minister in 1779, and remained in the pastorate for 21 years.
- We are home to world famous Foxboro Company, now owned by Invensys/Siemens. Local
families started the company.
- Foxborough was Incorporated on June 10, 1778
- The Lafayette House opened in 1784. Lafayette is thought to have spent the night here once.
- The first public celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in Foxborough occured in 1861.
- President Nguyen Van Thieu, the President of South Vietnam from 1967 - 1975, eventually moved to town and lived here for a few years until his death on September 29, 2001.

This town of ~20,000 is home to the Superbowl Champion New England Patriots,
New England Revolution, and Gillette Stadium!! Boston didn't want them
- The majority of town voters Did!
Some people spell it "Foxboro" and it seems to change depending
on what's on the outside of the Post Office, so I'll add this caveat
- the seal says Foxborough, official documents spell it with the ugh,
the old post office, school rings, diplomas, marriage certificates, etc. follow this spelling. Generally, in this area, the ugh is not
discarded until official City status has been reached. Additionally, the citizenry has no say in how the Postmaster chose to adorn the new Post Office.
