Internet Filters and Censorship: distinguishing between oppression and age-appropriate information dissemination.

Introduction // Censorship, Filters, and Children's Literature // Internet Filtering Products // Filtering Methods,or How Filters Work // Web Links and Contacts

This site is intended to provide a resource for examination and evaluation of the various types of filtering mechanisms currently available for use on the Internet, and well as some information on how to determine the usefulness and effectiveness of each. A historical look at censorship and children's literature/written materials will hopefully provide some interesting background information on why people have come to feel Internet filtering for children is a desireable thing. In addition there will be some information on what the effects of filter usage in public schools and libraries has been in areas that have passed mandatory filtering laws, as well as possible effects for areas that are considering the passage of such legislation. A list of most of the currently available filters and some information on each has also be included.
