Matters Arising
Arts out West representative, Hannah Semler’s visit- showing what AOW could do for the community. [There should be an article in this week’s paper.]

  • 13 representatives from community organisations e.g. Youth, Environment, Museum Centacare, Community Care, Corinella School.
  • It was great how ideas were bounced around.
  • Jane attended a meeting of the Heritage Committee who supported the rejoining of AOW
  • On Friday Jane, Bronwyn & other committee members plan to have a meeting with the Mayor, Alister Lockhart, hopefully taking other written pledges of support with them.

Correspondence

    1. A letter was received from Paul Bennett, Forbes Shire Council in response to our asking to rejoining AOW
    2. Jane replied in writing to the General Manager outlining the benefits for Forbes in rejoining AOW

Business
Our Speaker, Janine Whitfield from Mezzanine, talked about refurbishing the top floor of her building which has beautiful stain glass windows, into a real Art Gallery and Function room

  • Needs correct lighting of art - Bronwyn mentioned Jenolan Caves & Orange Art Gallery.
  • It has to be finished for the Paul Wenz’ Book Binding Exhibition opening on 12 Aug & running for 3 weeks.
  • 120 books will be exhibited.
  • Find out from the Curator, Sabine, what culture activities are planned & how we can help.
  • Wendy Goss, Museum, offered loan of Paul Wenz’ collection for the exhibition.
  • Ask Paul Scobie- the Heritage Advisor who just listed Nanima Station (formerly owned by Paul Wenz) for ways to combine with the homestead.
  • Bronwyn showed us copies of Paul Wenz’ photos. The originals are housed in the Mitchell Library. She also has a series of newspaper articles about his books.
  • Jane offered our assistance to Mezzanine to host cultural events. First by finding funding from AWO.

Other Matters

  • Jane wants a public meeting to prioritise the plan.
  • Centacare covers quite a few areas in the plan & wants an individual consultation with Ro & Jane.
  • Jane interviewed local photographer John Meagher. He’s having an exhibition at Lachlan Gallery next month.
  • Paul Scobie suggested a Forbes Arts Calendar to illustrate current & future programs. What group would benefit from this?

Next Meeting Wed 7 June
Will be a joint effort on Youth Perspective between Alison Aldridge, the Youth & Community Services Officer & Leanne Clarkson, the Centacare Youth Services Co-ordinator.
