Notes
from the Forbes Arts & Culture Working Group held on Monday
April 3 at the Town Library.
By
minutes secretary Jennifer Purdie.
Present
were Jane Bennie, Jennifer Purdie, Bronwyn Clark, & Rosalie
Burns
Coordinator,
Jane welcomed and thanked us for attending. She acknowledged Merrill’s
effort and time spent on producing the Draft Cultural Plan. “This
plan sets things out for us and gives us a sound base and a starting
line.Where we take it from here depends on our energy and enthusiasm.
Our skill is to motivate other people and organize things to achieve
community goals," Jane said.
"Around
this table we have the beginnings of an efficient group. We will
add to it along the way & become a strong community voice.".
Ideas
from the Meeting
1. Invite community leaders – one at each session, for their
plans and how we can interact. Start with Janine from the gallery
shop, Mezzanine Style, which was a runner-up in the Cultural Heritage
Award.
2. Contact Council requesting a response to the Cultural Plan.
3. Plan for implementing the mechanics of the Action Plan
• Public Forums, invite speakers e.g. discuss insurance issues
• Prioritise actions/events –what is possible in the
near future.
• Discuss involvement in Arts Out West – group or individual
membership to gain access to information & funding
• Start with Art Workshop for Disabled People using local
artists – Kathy Ewing, Ro, Jane
• Gather information for next meeting
4. Jane has been offered a printing press which can be used with
condensed milk and food colouring in schools.
5. We need a Register of Volunteer Artists willing to work in Schools,
the Library & Community Centre. (Put a sheet in Lachlan St Gallery)
