2AM - 3AM....
This review is, like most of my reviews, written rather late, this was out of choice, I needed time to rewatch the episode and pull my thoughts into some kind of coherent form. Otherwise you wouldn't have gotten a review, you would have gotten the insane ramblings of a kid who been given to much sugar. A quick note to those reading this review who haven't actually seen this episode yet, it is highly recommended that you stay 100% spoiler free for this episode to fully enjoy it. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!. Episode 14 of the series, where to begin, at the beginning might be a good place. But then again, I don't like these review becoming a recap of the episode with my thoughts just thrown in, thats what the episode guide is for. So I'l begin where I want. Chloe!!, oh yes chloe, last week I confessed to starting to really like her, she's just so funny and has a kind of innocence about her. All that continues here, with some great results ("Ge Chase, I think she was pissed"). I see this character developing further, and well right now it would be a crime if she didn't, and in my (humle) opinnion she'll be back next year for sure. The Chase and Kim dynamic is back at the forefront this week, with Kim coming to terms with Chase being a father. It's time for a wacky theory of mine, do we have 24: The Next Generation, developing here????, a possible spin off series??? (sort of joking) or a early moving of pieces when Kiefer eventually decides step aside. Think about it, Chase the new Jack, Kim the new Teri, Angela the new Kim. I know that some people will probably be horrified at this thought, I'm not suggesting it'll happen, I'm merely suggesting that there's a possibility and that one day we could have 24 without Jack, and in my view, who better to take over the lead role, than James Badge Dale (Chase). Now on to what I'm dying (ya get it?, dying!, ah why do I bother) to talk about, Nina (ah there it is, now you get it). Firstly let me quote some of those delivous lines from the interrogation, "hmm, first jack, then you, what does that remind me of?" and "that's a nice ring, who's the lucky girl?". The interrogation mad for great television, and a scene between Tony and Nina was a must before Nina went to meet her maker. Ninas dash for freedom was the only action this episode, (not a complaint just a observation), it was really going to end one way, and in a very odd way, I'm glad that the ongoing saga which is Jack and Nina has come to and end, there was only some much character development that Jack could do while Nina was still alive, and now that she is, I can see Jack truly having the shadow which was Teri's death lifted, getting over his inner "demons". Also from a writers view point it allows them greater freedom, and also frees them from the trap of being lazy when thinking "so why is he doing this?, what's he's motivation" and coming to the decision "oh blow, I can't think of anything new, he's doing it cos he's still pissed off about teri dying". As you can tell from the above paragraph, I'm actually pleased they killed Nina off, I wasn't totally overjoyed by how they did it, I've believed that when Nina did die, there would be some kind of reconsilation with Jack, sounds crazy, but I thought it could happen. A sort of final twist, development and journey. This felt too low key, I felt sorry for her, sombered by the thought "who will miss her??". She was a character of huge significance to the show, since it's start, even when we were lead to believe she was on Jack's side she was important. She deserved a climatic exit, the same treatment that George got (at almost the same point last year). But instead all she got was being shot by Jack in a dark room at CTU (Note of interest, I don't think it is the same room that Teri was shot in, although I do believe that it was made to look as close to that room as possible on short notice), not even an explanation by Jack, as to why he was doing this, it was revenge, pure revenge. Other stuff happened, but it pales in comparison. But what I will say, is that last year episode 15 was (regarded by many, especcially me) the best episode. Can episode 15 (this thursday's episode) be as good?. Watch this Space. |
