This builds on the good work of the last episode, to give us something which is working towards the height we know the show can go to. Possibly that has been this series problem, it's always building, laying foundations for the future, I'm getting a little itchy, maybe i'm just impatient, but I kind of hoped we'd be there by now, this time during the first series, we'd already had the palmer breakfast, the failed attempt on his life and it had been revealed that Jaimey had been feeding Gaines information, not only that, but she'd commited suicide as well. I just feel that this series hasn't quite had the big landmark event yet, there have been small events, but they always felt like neccesary plot events that had to happen if the story was to progress. When do we get the payoff???, when do we get to see the fruits of all those smaller plot events???, that's what I really want to know.

It's not that i'm saying this episode was bad, i'm not, it was a perfectly fine piece of drama, and was actually above average for the series so far. At times, my pulse was racing and my heart thumping. The return of nina was a neccasary shot in the arm which was more than welcome, but that was last episode, this episode I wanted the payoff of her return, some sizzling tension as Jack and Nina starred daggers, some smart dialogue, and the thought that Jack may kill her at anytime. Instead we don't see her until the final third, and a line from Jack "if I was gonna kill you i would have done it by now". Sure the scene was good, some could argue it was excellent, but there's better to come from these two, I hope.

There was more action in the episode, a small fact to prove that, jack killed more people in this episode, than he has in the rest of the series so far. The action was more than welcome. They were the moments which got my heart pounding. Something I was unsure about though, the death of Claudia, was this needed??, what does it add?, I have to admit to not being a huge fan, regular readers of my reviews will probably already know that, but I'm also not a huge fan of killing characters of needlessly, why not merely let them "exit stage door left" happy, that would make a change huh!?.

More moaning from me to come, another thing which drove me up the wall, Chase's torture, why oh why??, s2 did it too death, for me it's not entertaining, it doesn't add all that much to the show, and because of the vast amount of tortures that they've done they feel they have to go further and further everytime, in the hope of shocking the audience and make them squirm. It's not gonna work, they can't beat the ultimate 24 squirming moment, jack cutting a dead guys thumb off so he could run prints. Pricless. Unlike the torture scenes of s2 and 3, which have amounted to nothing but tasteless scenes of violence. It's not original anymore, orginality is what makes 24 different, without it, it's just another spy TV show.

I have more complaints, but I really don't want to sound overally negative of an episode which was probably one of my favourites of the series. Odd though ain't it, I look back on the best episodes of s1 and even 2, and there almost perfect, one of the best episodes of s3 so far and I can go on forever about it's bad points. Draw your own conclusions....and then vote in the poll.
