We cannot thank Margi Floyd, of Winslows Australian Shepherds, enough for this beautiful, outgoing girl!  She has such a zest for life.

This little girl has everyone in my house wrapped around her little paw.  Ryder could not be more pleased with his new little sister.  Halo loves having another girl around the house to help her keep the boys inline, and Q, well he likes having another baby around to look out for.

Talon is an absolute joy to have around.  She is a very sweet dog, and truly makes you laugh out loud.  No one can resist her happy butt wiggles, and her big smiling face.  Talon LOVES people and other dogs, and has excellent doggy language.  She is so easy to live with!

When Talon commits to things, she does so with such enthusiasm and energy.  So much so, that it's a joy to watch her work.  I really love working with her.

So far we have focused on Disc and Search & Rescue, which she both absolutely LOVES!  We have done little agility work, and obedience work to date.  However, we plan to enroll in classes after our move to Alberta, Spring 2009.   Also, we hope to get introduced to the sport of tracking after we settle in.

As well, we plan to start Talon's flyball training this winter, which I'm sure she will pick up on in no time.  Watch for updates Summer 2009.

July, 2008, Talon attended a Herding Clinic in Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia. The Clinician really liked her and commented several times on what a nice pup she was, and how we should be able to do nicely in herding. She received outstanding reviews on her Herding Instinct Certified Test. I can't wait to work with this girl more!

Talon at an Agility Fun Day.  St. Andrew's, NL.  Summer, 2008.

Talon is a food hound, which makes her super easy to train.  Talon also LOVES balls and tugging!  She really is a brilliant girly.  She learns behaviours in extremely short training sessions, and if she knows you have treats she will offer you a variety of behaviours to try to earn herself a cookie.  I love how her mind works.  I am looking forward to working with her lots in the future; she drivey, smart, and loves to work.

Before she arrived I was really hoping for an aussie girl to call my own, as Halo is much more Lawrence's than mine.  I am very happy to say that Talon is MY special girly, and I truly think she will be a dog of a lifetime.

The more time I spend with this girl, the more she amazes me, and the more I love her.  She truly is a dog of a lifetime, and I couldn't be more pleased that she's mine.

Talon has had very little training in agility so far in her young life.  We have done most of our focus on jump collecting, to teach her the proper jumping style.  She has been introduced to the tunnel, and loved it.  As well, she has done some work on the contact trainer.  Once we move to Alberta, I plan to put her into a serious beginners class that will start us off right, and put in a good foundation.  If all goes well, perhaps we will do some Starters level competing in 2009.  Wish us luck!!

We have big plans for this little girl.  She will be competing in all areas:  conformation, obedience, agility, flyball, disc, and herding.  From what I know of her parents and relatives, she should excel in all these areas.  This is her mother’s, Courtney, second and last litter.  So we really hope to make her and Grandma Margi proud.  Thanks so much for letting this special girl travel all the way to Newfoundland to be with us.  We promise to spoil her rotten and love her tons!

Talon went to her first conformation show in March 2008, and she picked up her first CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) point. A big thank you goes out to her handler, Pamela Skanes of The Furr Factory. They make a fantastic team!

Talon & Pam attended Talon's second show weekend in a CKC show in PEI, Canada, June, 2008.  While they were there they picked up another 3 points towards Talon's CKC Championship!!  Way to go Talon & Pam!!

We are hoping and planning to finish Talon's Championship in 2009, once we arrive in Alberta.  Wish us luck, and look for us if you'll be in the area!

Since our recent move back to the West Coast of Newfoundland, from St. John's, Talon and I have started training with a K9 Search & Rescue (SAR) team.  She is showing great promise, and the head trainer has said multiple times that she has everything to thrive as a SAR dog.  We are going to spend much time and focus in this area.  As we both are truly loving it, and are having tons of fun.  What a great way to build an even stronger bond with your dog.  After our move, we plan to find a volunteer K9SAR team in our area.

NEWS: Talon visited Ottawa from Nov. 25 - Dec. 9, 2008.  She attended and competed at "The Big O" in Montreal, Quebec.  One of the biggest dogsport events in Canada.

Talon has never been in that intense dogsport atmosphere, and I decided to take her on my trip to Ottawa for the socialization.  However, she was doing so good with her Disc training that I decided to enter her for her RPT (Retrieval Proficiency Test) to see how she would handle things in a stressful & distracting environment.

Well Talon did outstanding!  She didn't pay attention to any of the distractions, and retrieved her disc just like she was at home in her own backyard.  She even brought it back right into my hands, which according to the CDDA (Canadian Disc Dog Assocation) would give her a perfect score of 5 out of 5.

Talon also got to attend a U-Fli flyball tournament in Brampton, Ontario.  She was so well behaved, and I can't wait to get her started in the sport.
