Tomorrow Part 3 - The Future of General Aviation
Purpose of This Page:

This page is intended to present some of the aircraft that I believe point to the future of General Aviation. The Aerocomp, Inc., aircraft shown below are in production, and examples are abundant in this area. An Aerocomp kit plane that was partially built here is included. Preference for local companies prevail here.

The Information Below Is From The Commercial Aircraft Manufacturer's Web Site

[Aerocomp Inc.]
[New Business Jet][Land Version]

This airplane is being manufactured now and several are flying in this area. Many have been built and so many are flying here that they no longer attract attention when one flies over. The company is obviously here to stay and is expanding.

The company is located on the Merritt Island Airport, Merritt Island, Florida. The people running the company are locals and they seem to be solid folks. There are two brothers running the company and one is a good communicator and businessman. Both are very good at what they do. I believe that you should contact them if you are looking for a kit designed to tomorrows specifications. The prices are much lower than one might expect. I am aware of only one serious incident involving their design and do not know the details. The people I have talked to are happy with the aircraft.

[Sea Plane Version]The aircraft to the right is their large sea plane that carries 7 to10 people. There is a pod under the belly of the airplane in the picture. The pod can be a fuel tank or a cargo pod. The pod is an approved addition to the airframe. A noticeable design detail is double vertical fins, ala F-14 and F-15. Have not flown in the airplane, but have seen some of its trials (I live about 1½ miles from the water test site) and the airplane seemed to perform very well.

I have just returned from a visit to the Merritt Island Airport (I live about 1 mile from the airport) and I saw four AeroComp aircraft under construction in various hangars that just happened to have their doors open and several more completed aircraft were parked on the ramps and in hangars. They are very prolific. What I am trying to get across is that this company has grown to the point that they are definitely here to stay. They will not disappear two weeks after you buy your kit.

These guys are venturing into the business class aircraft business. It appears that construction has already started. They have a new design that will, I believe, create a niche in the existing market.

These aircraft were designed and are being built on Merritt Island, Florida.

Kit Built Airplane - The information below is from the owner/builder of N744JK

N744JK

Aircraft N744JK was built in three years of dedicated effort by Ken Millard. Actually, it is always under construction and it may never be in a final configuration as there is always a way to improve something.

The wings were built on the Merritt Island Airport (COA),  Merritt Island, Florida, USA. The kit was then transported to Michigan where two more years were spent constructing the fuselage and tail assembly. The entire airplane was transported back to Florida where it was assembled and received its final inspection before being accepted by an FAA inspector as safe to fly.

The required 40 hours of test flying has been completed in the Merritt Island area airspace. The aircraft is now accepted as a true Airworthy Airplane.
