Trail Damage
Home
This bent tail pipe was done on the Naches Trail one day when I decided to see how far I could make it up the trail without using 4WD.  I got to a real twisty section and started spinning one of my rear tires.  So I backed up to get a little more speed to "pop" over the tree roots that were sticking out at the edge of the hole.  I still spun a tire, so I backed up one more time and heard a crunching sound followed by a hissing sound.  My buddy that was riding with me said, "shit, you popped your bead".  But when we got out and checked the tire, it looked fine and there was no more hissing.  Then I saw my mangled tailpipe hanging down in the mud.  As I was backing up, my tail pipe got hung up on the back side of the hole which ripped it off the hanger and bent it all the way to the ground.  We didn't have anything to cut the end of the pipe off with, so we used a tie-down strap to keep it from dragging.  After that incident, we dicided to call it a day so I do any more damage to the pipe and/or muffler.  When I got home I broke out the sawsall and buzzed the end of the pipe off.  The next day I made an appointment at a muffler shop where T-Nutz got his custom tail pipe.  The new pipe comes diagonally right under the rear corner.  After getting the new pipe, I won't have to worry about hanging it up again the next time I try to see how far I can get up the trail w/out using 4WD!!!  To see my writeup on the custom tail pipe, click here.
This section shows all the damage my Jeep has suffered on the trail, whether it be from me fucking around like a Jackass (see October 2000), from trees/rocks/stumps/animals jumping out and hurting my Jeep,  or just from normal wear & tear.

This little dent happened on the Shoesting trail when my left rear tire slid on a muddy tree root that sucked my tire into a big hole in front of the tree root.  The dent is pretty superficial, it was just a little kiss from the tree.  It's definitely time for some rocker skids and some aluminum rocker panels to cover up the dent and all the other scratches.
This shock started leaking one day on the 311 trail at Evans Creek ORV.  I was showing off a little FLEXin my tire on a rotted tree stump.  The approach was kinda steep, so I had to give it a little gas to pop my tire on top of it.  Well, I must have hit it a little too hard cause after that I heard some sqeaking coming from the front.  When I got to level ground to check it, I noticed some of the fluid leaking out.  I must have bent the piston or something.  No big deal, I didn't need to fix it on the trail.  When I got home I just asked for a replacement from the shop I bought it from Truck Farm.  They sent a new shock and I sent back the old one.
This incident almost ended a weekend of Jeepin before it even started.  I had been feeling driveline vibrations all week before I set out on that Friday.  I thought it might be a bent output shaft since that's the same thing that happened to CandyAss.  When I rounded a corner and gave it some gas, I heard the "pop".  When I got under my Jeep, I could see that the U-Joint bearing cap exploded.  So I removed the rear drive line, threw it in 4-HI, and drove it to camp in front wheel drive.  The next day I called RedAss to bring me his spare driveline, but he has one for a D35c and the bearing caps are smaller than my D44 caps.  Luckily CandyAss had a spare D44 that he brought me in time to go Jeepin on Sunday!!!
