Kimi Raikonnen was again in strong form in yesterday's (1/6/03) Monaco Formula One Grand Prix, with yet another strong drive into second place. Columbian Juan Pablo Montoya scored his first victory since Italy 2001 ahead of the Finnish driver. Kimi carried more fuel at the race start and relinquished second to Montoya. His extra fuel meant that he could pit 3 laps later than Montoya on both stops. Any chance of victory however, was lost due to traffic problems, none greater than Jacques Villeneuve's BAR and Montoya's pace on heavy fuel even after his stop. The result means that Raikkonen's ailing championship lead has been strengthened by two points over Micheal Schumacher's Ferrari. The German drove inconsistently to finish third. Meanwhile, another disappointing race from Scotsman David Coulthard brought about another lowly points finish. The Scot, unable to do anything about Jarno Trulli's Renault finished 7th scoring 2 points but falling to equal fifth in the championship standings.
