Imagery in Macbeth is provided from many different things, one of the things is the
APPARITIONS. The apparitions occur because Macbeth goes to the witches to receive
more information about his future, and how long he will rein as king.
The witches cast a spell which causes Macbeth to see apparitions, the first apparition is an
armed head, and told him to beware Macduff. The second apparition come in the form of a
bloody child, telling Macbeth that no man born of a child can harm him. The third
apparition come in the form of a crowned child, with a tree in his hand. Telling Macbeth
that unless Birnam wood started to walk towards his castle he will remain king.
This gives Macbeth a false scence of security, because he can kill Macduff, he thinks that
every man is born of woman and because Birnam wood can not get up and walk towards his
castle.
Imagery is also present when Macbeth is going to kill Duncan and he see a dagger leading him
to Duncan's
room.
SUPERNATURAL MOOD
The
Supernatural mood in Macbeth is scary. This helps the play by
provoking a sense of fear in the audience. Even though it doesn't seem that frightening compared to
today's movies and plays, it would have scared the heck out of the audience of the time.
Since
the fear of witches is very real at the time this is why it is so scary.
