Hikaru No Go Summary (vol3)
Volume 3
The comic started with Akira in his school's Go club. Previously, three other members had thought of a cruel idea to chase Akira out of the club. They wanted to win Akira by asking him to play with them three games of blind chess at the same time. Luckily, Hidan, a girl senior, had discovered this and prevented Akira in playing in this unfair competition. On the other side, Hikaru had somehow found a girl member for the club, Kaneko, who was of the volley ball club. But the latter could not qualify as the third male participant for the inter-school competition. So the three of them came up with an idea of posting a problem of Go on the notice and see if anyone could answer. In this way, they had found Metani Yuuki. Hikaru had incidentally found a Go shop and met Metani there. However, he found a problem Metani cheated in his game by shifting and stealing seeds. Metani however, had met his match in a seasoned cheater, Dake san and had lost ten thousand yen to him. Upon discovering that Dake sans was invited by the shop owner to teach him a lesson, Metani left in anger after paying his debt. Here Hikaru found a way to make Metani joined the club. He asked Sai to help him win the money back for Metani. Of course, Sai won easily. In this way, Metani joined the Go club. Having gathered enough people to enter the competition, Metani, Zutsui and Hikaru were ready to join the competition with Metani as the leadering, followed by Zutsui and Hikaru. On the other side, Akira had somehow know that Hikaru was playing third in the competition. He pled the teacher, Yun san to let him also be the third player in order to play with Hikaru once more. But according to his capability, Yun san had placed Akira as the first player... so Akira came up with a condition that he would quit the club after he had played with Hikaru. The teacher agreed. He had known of the disturbance Akira had caused to the club although he was an ace player. In addition, Akira's father, Touya Koyo was also demanding a reason for Akira's participation in such competition. Since Akira was so good a player, it was a waste for him to stay in such club and join such activities. Also, Akira had wanted to join the Go test which would qualify him to be a professional player. Akira stated that he wanted to be as good a player as his father as the main reason and believed that by playing with Hikaru, he could be nearer to his goal. At the competition, when Hikaru was about to compete with Akira, he had actually wanted to play so that Akira could give up on him. But upon overhearing that Akira had risked being bullied in school just to play with Sai, he decided to allow Sai to play instead. However, in the middle of the game, at a crucial point, Hikaru had thought of a move while Sai was still thinking of the best move. In this way, Hikaru took over the game from Sai and played. However, due to his inability, Hikaru was unable to make the best of his move, though Sai had considered it the best move. Akira upon seeing through Hikaru's real ability was sadly disappointed and left in anger... ... (actually this part is a little over to volume 4)
More about Go Hm... i didn't really know much about Go but here is something to explain about why Metani could win the game by stealing of shifting seeds. In Go, points were given for each territory captured, each seed captured. So by shifting the seeds, you might be able to gain more territory and points. By stealing could mean, decreasing your own seeds so that you can get more territory. Here i don't think stealing involved the opponent's seed as you cannot consider them as prisoners. 'Prisoners' were seeds captured and normally one would place them on your own plate, which is open for all to see. But if you know of any error in my explanation, do write to me. i'll correct them.
