Hikaru No Go Summary (vol2)
Volume 2
Hikaru went to a funfair organised by Akari's elder sister's school. There he saw a booth which involved solving Go problems to gain prizes. The top prize was a Go book written by Toya Koyo. Sai wanted to read the book and pushed Hikaru to play. But in the game, a boy, Kaga Tezuo interrupted. He challenged Hikaru to a game. However, due to some distraction, Hikaru placed his seed in the wrong place, causing a serious loss. Even with Sai's expertiste, Hikaru could only made up with a loss of eleven seeds.

Both Kaga and Zutsui, the boy in charge of the booth, were amazed. In the end, they came up with an idea of asking Hikaru to disguise as a first year of the senior school to participate in the inter-school Go competition. (Actually, the Go club was set up be Zutsui... er... who was also the only member. Kaga was of another kind of chess club president)

That day at the competition, with Sai's help, Hikaru won easily but Hikaru's real identity was discovered and they were disqualified. However, Akira who was invited to attend the school, hosting the competition saw Hikaru. The latter felt disappointed that Hikaru's opponent was not himself.

In the coming year, Hikaru and Akari both entered the school in which Kaga and Zutsui were in. Both of them had joined the Go club. Hikaru began to take a serious attitude in learning Go. However, the club still short of one male player to represent in the next competition.

On the other side, Akira had entered the school which had hosted the inter-school Go competition. But in his eagerness to play with Hikaru, after waiting for the latter daily at the club and the latter failed to turn up, he made his way to find Hikaru in his school. Still, Hikaru knowing that he had nothing to compare with Akira, shunned him aside, determining only to face him when he was as good as Akira in Go without Sai's help.In his disappointment, Akira too joined the Go club of his school to force Hikaru to compete with him at the next inter-school competition.

However, Akira's joining had caused dissatisfaction in the Go club. The other members felt his presence threatening and wanted to get rid of him...
Something about Go
There is something i need to clarify. As i did not know the japanese word for the Go shop or club, i did not clearly differentiate the two.

According to the comic, there were shops that specially provided tables, chess set for people to play Go in. Maybe i should listed it as Go Shop instead. There is a requirement of an entrance fee of about 500 yen for children and 800 yen for adults. In such shops, you can also seek the guidance of professional Go players to teach you how to play. This required a fee of about 1000 yen to 15000 yen, depending on the level of the Teacher. You can also buy drinks in such shops. Also according to the comic, people can also smoke in such shops... which i think is rather immoral. Other things you can do are like reading the weekly or monthly Go magazine which the shop also provide. But i think such shops were mainly for people to gather... like the teahouses in China.

You can also invite professional Go player to your home to teach you how to play but this will involve an extra fee. (i will write more on this in the later volume)

Some schools also have Go club. For school such as the one Akira entered, which may have been well-known for such club, may have invited a consultant in Go to teach the students how to play Go. Yun san was the teacher or consultant there.

In other school which doesn't take Go seriously... well maybe like the one Hikaru attend. It may not even have proper chess set. The ones used by Hikaru's club were donated by the father of one of the teacher. But there is always a start, right?
