| October 1, 2002 Happy New Fiscial Year!!!! Amy officially started her full-time job today. Dan finished the report card section of the NEWS, so check it out. October 2, 2002 After work and daycare, Amy went out with some friends for a movie...she saw "Sweet Home Alabama". She said it is a definate "chick-flick", but very good...she gives it 1 "long wink". October 3, 2002 Not much going on today, just work and daycare. October 4, 2002 To celebrate Amy's first full week of work, we all went out for dinner at El Toro's Mexican Family resturant...the food was good and the kids were great...it helped that the service was excellent so we were in and out before they got bored. October 5, 2002 After gymnastics, Dan cut the grass and cleaned the pool...Amy did some yard work and cleaned the back porch while Ian and Jordan took a nap. October 6, 2002 Dan spent the day in Jacksonville for the Jaguars vs. Eagles game with John and Frank (co-workers that are both from Philly)...they are going to repay Dan by going to the Steeler game in December. Amy and the kids spent the day at home because the car wouldn't start. October 7, 2002 Dan and Amy got to watch their first launch together at work...STS-112 was a complete success. October 8, 2002 Happy Birthday to Pap!!! Not much going on today, just work and daycare, so here's an update...Ian has been doing a lot of sitting-up by himself lately. He does real good at balancing, but if he falls forward, he hates to be on his belly, so he lays there and cries until you pick him back up. If he falls back, he doesn't cry, but just lays there until you get him back up. So no signs of him rolling over any time soon. October 9, 2002 Happy Birthday to Gramma!!! Dan left to pick up the kids and then take Coral to her Daisy troup meeting...once Amy got home with Coral, she had to spend the night in her room for punishment...she has been getting up in the middle of the night for no real reason and waking up Dan and Amy. We had to put a stop to that because we were not getting any sleep. October 10, 2002 Dan had a branch retreat at work and traveled with Doug to KARS Park for the all-day meeting, so Amy had the kids by herself for the trip to and from work. October 11, 2002 After work and daycare, Dan got the kids and went to a picnic/party at KARS Park for the Branch Chief...Amy met-up with them later. It was a post-chemo celebration...what a better way to end breast cancer...drink to it's departure! October 12, 2002 Amy and Coral spent most of the day on the road, while Dan, Jordan and Ian were at home hanging out. First Coral had gymnastics then Amy had an eye doctor's appointment and that is where the fun began...Amy got her eyes dilated so while she was waiting for it to wear-off, she and Coral walked around the mall. This was a cruel trick to play on Amy, she couldn't see anything, so she couldn't buy anything. It was like putting Dan in Vegas without any money! October 13, 2002 Amy and Coral went to church, and then while Coral was learning the ways of the church in CCD, Amy did some food shopping. Once they got back and we all ate lunch, Dan went to Malibu's for the Steeler's game for the first time this year and he got to see the Steelers at their best. October 14, 2002 Merry Columbus Day!!! Dan and Amy had the day off from work, so the Florida Remberts and the Shaffers took a trip to the Central Florida Zoo...it was no Pittsburgh Zoo! We spent more time at lunch at Joe's Crab Shack than we did looking at the elephants grooming themselves (and all the other zoo-type activities). After we got done with the 1 hour and 40 minute tour of the facility, we understood why it was only $8 for adults and $4 for kids (and free for Jordan and Ian)...Oh well, at least we got out of the house on our day off and had some good snow crab! October 15, 2002 Back to the grind of work and daycare...this is Coral's last week off from school. Dan and Amy have found a new favorite TV show...if you get a chance to watch "Less than Perfect", we recommend it very highly! It is a scream and Andy Dick is great...best new show since "Friends". October 16, 2002 The news of the day was the weather...fall has finally arrived in Central Florida! The high today was in the low 80s so we turned off the air conditioning and opened all the windows for the first time since March...woo hoo! October 17, 2002 Another beautiful Florida fall day...highs near 80 and not a cloud in the sky. And, oh by the way, the Florida Remberts are doing good! October 18, 2002 STS-112 returned to KSC today...Dan and Amy watched the shuttle land from outside their offices. Later, while Amy was returning to the O&C from the HQ building, she saw the crew drive by in their shuttle-bus and then ran to see them as they got off the bus and into the crew quarters. Amy said they seemed real excited to be back and waved back to the dozen or so fans waving to them, clapping for them, and welcoming them back...the whole experience was fun! October 19, 2002 Amy and Coral went to gymnastics with special guest Jordan, who got to roll around on the mats as well. After that, they stopped at BJs to get their halloween costumes. Dan and Ian watched Penn State beat up on Northwestern. For dinner, we all went to Chili's and then to the beach for an evening walk and play in the sand. October 20, 2002 Today was Dan's turn to take Coral to church, CCD and then go food shopping. After that, we went to Cocoa Village for the craft show. We ate lunch, bought some gifts, had some ice cream, and some of us even slept in the stroller. The only down side was that the heat seems to be making a comeback, so we were all a little hot and tired by the time we got back...so the air conditioning made a comeback while we put up the halloween decorations. October 21, 2002 Today was Coral's last day with Sherry and the Tiny Treasures of Joy staff (Sherry's mom and dad), so they got her a cake...she really enjoyed her time with them and the kids at daycare. Later, it was time for the Steelers to make a mends on Monday Night Football and they did by dominating the Colts in a 28-10 victory...too bad it cost Dan a fantasy football loss (Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James are on his team). October 22, 2002 Coral was back to school, so just Ian and Jordan did the daycare thing and Dan and Amy did the work thing...not much else to say. October 23, 2002 Today was Super Safety Day at KSC...its a day to concentrate on safety at the workplace. So, everyone stops working and watches presentations (some better than others) and visits exihibits of vendors (including Rehab Works, which Amy did all day instead of getting educated). After work, Coral was inducted into the Girl Scouts Daisy program offically. They had a little ceramony that was cute with all the little girls getting hazed. October 24, 2002 Coral had a fever and a sore throat, so she, Amy and Ian stayed home, while Dan went to work and Jordan went to daycare...Coral was feeling better by evening. October 25, 2002 Dan had a dentist appointment before work, so Amy drove Ian and Jordan to daycare and Coral to school (she was all better). After work, Dan picked everyone up and Amy stayed late at work. After she got home, Amy took Coral and Jordan to return costumes and get new ones. October 26, 2002 Coral had gymnastics and Jordan went with them again to get out some energy. After they got home and we all had lunch, Coral had a birthday party to attend. Dan stayed home with Ian and Jordan and we all watched Penn State lose to OSU... oh well, there goes there chances to a good bowl game. October 27, 2002 Happy Standard Time!!! After all the kids got up early, Amy and Coral attended church and then CCD for Coral while Amy did some shopping. After lunch, Dan watched the Steelers game at Malibu's (they are finally coming around)*. Then we spent the evening at Cocoa Beach for the Our Savior's church fair where we rode all the rides and ate greasy food (note the order). Amy saw a slot machine at a games booth and said, "real nice at a church function", and Dan said, "you can tell you are not Catholic, gambling is not one of the deadly sins, that's why its the best religion ever!". *Side Note: While watching the Steelers game, Emmitt Smith broke the rushing record and everyone stopped to watch and stood up to cheer...that is what is great about sports! October 28, 2002 Back to work, school and daycare...after Amy and Dan got the kids, we picked out a pumpkin for halloween...we are planning to carve tomorrow night. October 29, 2002 After work, school and daycare, we carved the pumpkin and put it on the stoop and danced around it to conjure up the halloween spirts...then we made cookies. October 30, 2002 After work, school and daycare, we went to the pumpkin patch party at Gardendale...the kids got all dressed-up and played games and won prizes, while Amy volunteered at one of the booths. October 31, 2002 Happy Halloween!!! After we scared everyone at work, daycare and school, we got home and got dressed-up...Coral was a leopard, Jordan was a lady bug, and Ian was a pumpkin (Dan was Joseph and Amy was Mary...well not really, but you know). After going around the block, we all got back and handed out our candy to what Pap calls "the beggars". |
