| April 1, 2005 And the fools just keep on coming Usually we write some outrageous happenings that are so far fetched, there is no way it could be truethis year, there is no reason to write these falsehoods because what seems outrageous is actually true, so don't look for the "April Fools" at the end of this story. The day started with us dropping the kids off at daycare and then getting the 24-foot, diesel truck with insurance coverage worth more than our lives. Amy and Dan went back to the old house to start packing just waiting for the "OK" to go to the closing. Amy left Dan to meet the mattress delivery guys for a couple hours in the middle of the day. More delays set the closing back another few hours and then just when you thought the process couldn't take longer, the closing took 3 hours. It was a good thing that the second closing was scheduled for 5 PM (which at the time seemed late) because we needed every second to finally get the closing company to cut the check (for the record, it was the fault of our buyer's lender that caused all this grief and we learned never to use an out of town lender or Accurate Mortgage!). Because everything was explained to us the first time we signed every paper, the second closing only took 20 minutes and we finally owned our house on Merritt Island!!! This, of course, pushed our moving schedule further back and made the move ever more stressful, but at least we got to sleep in our new house. April 2, 2005 Moving Day, Part II: The Big Stuff! Shannah was kind enough to take the kids off of our hands for the day so we could concentrate on moving. She showed up in a driving rain at about 8:30 AM. After a quick tour and a bon voyage to the kids, Dan and Amy drove to the old house to get started. A few friends (Frank and little Frank, Chuch, Pat, and Jason) to which we are forever indebted showed up at the old house at about 10 AM. The rain luckily subsided soon after we got started loading the truck with years of junk, which was a complete act of God and a huge bullet dodged! The goal of the day was to get the big/heavy stuff to the new house and leave the rest for later while we had the help and this was completed to perfection. By about 1 PM we were eating pizza and telling war stories of missing paint and lacerated skin (the marks of a good move). The rest of the day we put together things and unpacked essentials while the DIRECTV was installed. April 3, 2005 Moving Day, Part III: Revenge of the Moving Truck. The Florida Remberts spent most of the day (10 AM - 9 PM) getting the final items from the old house to the new house. At about 3:30 PM, we said our final good-byes and shed a few tears as we left Rockledge and moved to Merritt Island. We loved the house and especially the pool at the old house and thank God for the many great memories we had in our first Florida home, but we were also excited and happy about our new home and can't wait to store many more memories of our lives here at this house! April 4, 2005 Dan and Coral had the day off and Amy a half day to get life back to somewhat order. We returned the truck after dropping a few items off at Goodwill and Jordan and Ian at daycare, then the most glorious part of the process of selling our house came to fruitionwe deposited our big, fat check! After we got back and Amy went to work, Coral played in the neighborhood while Dan put together Jordan and Coral's bunk beds. Later, Coral had a softball game that proved normality is not too far away and that the move was worth the wait when we got to the field in 5 minutes. April 5, 2005 After the pest control service came and the kids were all dropped off at their designated places, Dan had a dentist appointment then it was off to join Amy back at work. Dan and Jordan later had a t-ball game to start the second half of the season and it went very well when the team got 4 outs in one inning and that just never happens! April 6, 2005 After work, school and daycare, Dan picked up the kids and took Coral to her softball game where she hit a double to the fence, which was a big moment! While they were at the game Amy was busy getting the bedrooms straightened up and closets filled. April 7, 2005 The Dolphins got their game in before the big storm hit this evening...other than that, nothing but unpacking going on with the Florida Remberts. April 8, 2005 This evening we all realized the ease at which even gymnastics in now made with the move to Merritt Islandwoo hoo!!! April 9, 2005 Today was the All-American Picnic for all of the employees of KSC (including Dan and Amy). They had plenty of stuff for the kids to do like playing games for little prizes and live music, but the best part of the day was the weather, which was perfect and nice to take the day off from some unpacking. Later, Dan took the night off as well to go on the gambling boat, but he wished he would have stayed home and unpacked after they took all his money. April 10, 2005 Amy took Coral to CCD and did the food shopping for the week. In the afternoon, it was back to work for Dan, while Amy shopped for some needed household items. Later, we all took another break for a nice visit at the Shaffer's house for dinner. April 11, 2005 No softball tonight for Coral (bye night), so we took the time to get the house closer to ready. April 12, 2005 For the first time in a while (probably since we moved), the entire family made it to the field for a game. Tonight it was Jordan and Dan's game (Dolphins) and the girls were in rare formit must have been a full moon or something. April 13, 2005 Coral started her first step to the new appliance with a visit to the dentist today. Since that took only a few minutes, Dan and Coral returned a few things at BJs before picking up Jordan and Ian and then getting dinner ready so we could all watch Coral's game. Dan also added a brand new Story about Rich to the site (the first in about 5-months). April 14, 2005 Today we got our safety fence around our pool installed so that the kids can play on the patio without fear of falling in the pool. Amy also bought a new potty for Ian so he can start using it on a regular basis (said with fingers crossed). April 15, 2005 Happy Tax Day and many good returns to all!!! Today we ordered a new computer for our new desk in our new house. A good sign that the weekend is upon usFriday evening gymnastics and a late dinner for Dan and Amy. April 16, 2005 We got our first official visitors and guestAmy's Aunt Judy and Uncle Jim brought Amy's Gramma over from the west coast of Florida (where she is visiting their new house) to stay the night while they stayed in a nearby hotel. We got other visitors toosoon after the arrival of Gram, Dan and Amy's long-awaited bedroom furniture was delivered and set up! April 17, 2005 Amy, Coral, and Jordan took Gramma to our old but still current church until after Coral makes her first holy communionuntil then, church is our last connection to Rockledge. The rest of the day was filled with firsts: the first lawn trim for Dan, the first swim for Dan and Jordan, and the first decorations on our plant shelves. April 18, 2005 Back to the grindDan took a short afternoon trip to Orlando to visit with KSC's regulators, the FDEP - Central District and made it back in time to pick up the kids as usual. Later, Coral and Amy worked on Coral's banner for her first holy communion. April 19, 2005 Well, we are back on the "sick train"midway through the day the school called to tell Dan that Ian was sick and needed to be picked-up. We soon found out that another plus to the proximity of our new house is for these situations. Later, just Jordan and Dan attended the t-ball game while the others stayed behind. April 20, 2005 Dan and Amy split the day to stay home with Ian and get some work done around the house. Later, Amy took Coral to her softball game where she caught a foul ball while she was the catcher. This may seem to be a bit of a mundane act to the normal observer, but the fans at the game went wild. After the game and the awesome play, they went to Beef O'Brady's for dinner because it was the monthly GEMS family night. April 21, 2005 Ian still has his mysterious virus, so Dan and Amy split time at the office and time working on the house. Jordan and Dan completed another game and afterwards Amy joined some folks from work at Carrabba's to say farewell to a fellow employee from the fitness center that used to work as an intern at RehabWorks. April 22, 2005 Ian finally made it back to school to be with his friends! Later, Jordan and Coral both attended gymnastics and Dan attended his bi-weekly poker gameboth went well and although Jordan and Coral didn't come back with a pocket full of money like Dan, they all came home with smiles. April 23, 2005 After Salvation Army came to get some of our old stuff, we shopped all day long for some new stuffodds and ends for the plant shelves and just general "home stuff". April 24, 2005 Dan, Coral, and Jordan went to church and Coral had her last CCD class at St. Mary's while Dan and Jordan put a good dent in the food shopping budget for this week. Later, Dan went to Target to get a new stainless steel grill, but didn't get the chance to take it for a test spin just yet. While Dan set up the grill in its permanent place, Amy did some gardening, Jordan played around the house, Ian napped, and Coral went to Lauren's. We all met up later for a spaghetti dinner. April 25, 2005 Amy's day started off bad and got worseshe has been having trouble with her teeth so she went to get them checked by a specialist and had a root-canal performed to alleviate the pain. In order to do that long-term, the short-term pain took over and she did not have a good day. Later, she stayed home with Ian and Jordan and Dan took Coral to her softball game. April 26, 2005 With the rain canceling the t-ball game, there was not much to the dayfinally! April 27, 2005 We decided to go to the mall to look for some pictures to fill empty wall space because Coral had a bye for the last non-make-up-game softball night. We found two nice pictures, got some food for the kids, and then headed home for tubby-time. Amy gave the kids an early tubby because she went out with some friends from work to say good-bye to another co-worker. April 28, 2005 The morning started with Ian, Jordan, and Coral all having a visit with the dentist and Amy plugging her ears to drown out the sounds of crying kids. For Ian, this was his first visit, but there was no excuse for Jordan's behavior. Unlike his sisters, Ian has his dad's teeth, which are straight and won't necessitate orthodontia work in the future. Later, Dan and Jordan had their last t-ball game of the yearwoo hoo! After the game, Dan took the entire team to Diary Queen for some treats, which some players deserved more than others, but who is keeping track. April 29, 2005 We finally got a new, working computer!!! This should help us communicate with any one that would like to e-mail us and maybe, just maybe facilitate the update of pictures on this site. Dan left with Jordan and Ian to set it up on the new desk after Jordan's gymnastics class, while Amy stayed with Coral for her class. April 30, 2005 The Shaffers sans John (who was at a Special Olympics event in Tampa) came for their first taste of the new house. The kids all fit in a swim (even though the temperature is at about 75) and Dan got to use the new grill, which worked like a charm! |
