Happy New Year!!!
Once the person stopped hitting everyone in the head with the hammer, the fun of the annual Rembert's games party could begin.  We used this day to say good-bye to the rest of our friends and family with some surprise drop-in visits.

January 2, 2004
Another day of traveling...we beat our old record by an hour.  Since we were so excited to get back to our normal lives, it only took us a little over 16 hours (5:11 AM to 9:14 PM) to get back to Florida.  We couldn't have done either trip without our new TV/VCR for the Caravan...thanks Grandma, that was the best Christmas present ever!

January 3, 2004
Unpack...Laundry...Food Shopping...Rest...'nuff said.

January 4, 2004
Dan and Coral went to church to resume our normality.  Later, Coral and Amy had a Brownie's meeting about the big cookie sale for this year.
So expect a call soon to get your orders.

January 5, 2004
The big back to the grind day.

January 6, 2004
Happy 36th Anniversary to the original Remberts, Gene and Judy, for without them, there would be no us to write about in this informational diary.  Also, Merry Christmas to all our Orthodox friends.  It was Coral's turn to get back to the grind by starting back to school today.

January 7, 2004
Today it was back to Brownies for Coral...it is so much fun starting the new year like this.

January 8, 2004
After watching Coral scratch her head for about a week or two, we finally found out what was wrong...head lice.  Yep, the dreaded bug has hit the household, so she stayed home today with Amy (morning) and Dan (afternoon), got the treatment, and we washed everything that she ever touched.  The funny thing is we think that she got it on our trip to Pittsburgh.  In other NEWS, Dan went to the coaches meeting for the Merritt Island Lassie League (the softball league Coral will be playing in this year).  And yes, you also saw that correctly, Dan got roped into being a coach for one of the Tee Ball teams.  Practice will be starting in a few weeks.

January 9, 2004
Coral is back in school...the nurse checked her head and there were no signs of lice, so she was welcomed back.  Later we got some pizza and started the weekend.

January 10, 2004
After gymnastics, we got all the inside Christmas decorations down and packed-up.  We then did some organizing to find room to get the new toys a place in our house.  Dan and Amy got to go out at night for their contract's annual "Awards Banquet".  This is a holiday party that they decided to have late this year so everyone could come.  The food and drinks were good and we even got home kinda early so the kids were still up with the babysitters.

January 11, 2004
Amy and Coral went to church and CCD/Publix.  Today is was the outside Christmas stuff's turn to "come down off of there".  Later, we went to the Shaffer's house for some playtime for the kids and to watch the Eagle's game, which they won.  We also had some white chicken chili with cornbread...mmmmmm!

January 12, 2004
Not much going on in Florida, just back to the grind.

Richard John Rust, Rest in Peace (March 9, 1971 - January 13, 2004).

January 14, 2004
After making the trip two weeks earlier, we were going back to Pittsburgh again to remember the life of one of the most special people we know and love.  It was a hard trip to make.

January 15, 2004
After staying the night in North Carolina, we got into Pittsburgh at about 4 PM.  Amy and Dan took quick showers, got ready, and met up with the family at Aunt Elaine's and Uncle Whitey's.  We then went to the funeral home to see Rich for the first time.  Many people said that he looked better than he did while he was sick, but all that matters is he is in a better place now.

January 16, 2004
Today was another day of viewing for Rich.  Dan and Amy would like to take this opportunity to thank all that showed their sympathy to us and our family.  At the end of the day, a few people played some songs for Rich.  This was a very touching moment and something that Rich really would have, and I'm sure did, enjoy.

January 17, 2004
The funeral was today.  Everyone's words about Rich rang true and were vivid memories of Rich.  He's a great man and will be missed by many friends and family, but we ask that you pray for Deni, Madison, and his unborn son, Ethan.  May God let you rest in peace, my friend and brother.

January 18, 2004
We now had to get back to Florida because the snow and cold was getting to be too much, so we packed-up the Caravan and headed south to our home.

January 19, 2004
We took the day to rest and get all the clothes washed and to remember Rich again before getting back to the grind of daily activities.

January 20, 2004
It was back to work, school, and daycare today.  Dan was able to write down a few words about Rich today also, so make sure to check it out.  Later, it was time to call the T-ball team to introduce them to their coach and negotiate contracts.

January 21, 2004
Coral had Brownies today and Dan finished called the team, which will probably be called the Dolphins (Dan tried for the Stealers, like stealing bases, but the little girls didn't go for that).

January 22, 2004
Not much going on, but Dan has picked up the guitar and started playing again.  He is practicing to possibly play in the Rich Rust Tribute Show with Matt Rust and Shawn Cray.

January 23, 2004
Today was the big "raise day".  Dan finally got the rest of his raise in his paycheck and Amy got her raise too...woo hoo!  To celebrate, Amy and Dan got Applebees after the kids were in bed.

January 24, 2004
Amy was all excited today because Jordan and Coral will be taking gymnastics on Thursdays together, so there are no more Saturday gymnastics.  Amy and Jordan went to Jordan's first-ever friend's birthday party and had a great time with the kids from her school.  Later, we all went over the Durham's for a nice, quick visit and some pizza.

January 25, 2004
Dan and Coral went to Church and then Coral had CCD, but Amy wanted to do the Publix shopping, so we switched up before it was time to pick up Coral.  In the afternoon, Coral and Amy went out and sold Girl Scout cookies.  Coral was able to sell 71 boxes (65 was her goal), so we are very proud of her...she even spoke up.

January 26, 2004
We had to get the Caravan serviced with almost 4,000 miles put on in less than a month, so the Jeep got to get some miles on the way to work.  After work and school, Dan and Coral went to Wal-Mart for some spikes for T-Ball.

January 27, 2004
It's been a while since the last weather report plus the weather up north is so bad plus Dan does have that degree equals time for weather-time with Dan!  It rained pretty hard this morning, but the sun came out in the afternoon...that is not the big news, it was so warm that it almost reached the 80s today, woo hoo!  We will be swimming in the pool soon.

January 28, 2004
Today was Coral and Dan's first day of practice.  Practice started at 6 PM and the first order of business was the team name...Dolphins.  Next we had some batting practice.  It was pretty chilly, 47-degrees, to be swinging the bat and catching the ball, but the girls didn't seem to mind they were having too much fun!

January 29, 2004
Today was NASA Remembrance Day..."a time to remember those who have died in the pursuit of exploration".  Today was also a very important day for Jordan...she started gymnastics today and she was very excited about joining Coral in a gymnastics class (Coral is in a different age group but they have class at the same time).  Jordan was very cute as she waved at Daddy while she was standing on the mat in the gym.  Dan also found some old RichRust.com journal entries for those of you interested in reading some old thoughts of Rich's.

January 30, 2004
We started our weekend off with dinner for the kids from McDonalds, and then after bedtime for them, Dan and Amy got some food from Applebees.

January 31, 2004
We spent the day off from gymnastics cleaning and doing laundry.  Amy even fit in a quick trip to Wal Mart and Blockbuster for some movies.  The reason for the movies is because Dan was going to play in a Texas Hold 'em Tournament at night.  After staying out all night, Dan didn't do so well, but it was good to get the first experience under the belt.
