The purple coneflower is one of the stars of the prairie. This coneflower was started indoors. The seed for this second-year plant was obtained from a coneflower growing in a former pasture a couple miles from our prairie. Note in the foreground a Prairie Cinquefoil, nipped by deer (white blossoms) and a Butterfly Milkweed (orange blossoms).
