BLACK SHIP.

Acrylic. In one version of the screenplay, the source of the mysterious signal was an abandoned secret earth base that served as the hatchery and nursery to develop the alien creatures as sinister weapons of war. The painting portrays its discovery by the crew of the earthship as they stand beneath the looming hulk of one of the base's damaged cargo ships.

REMAINS OF ALIEN PILOT.

1976, acrylic. An early Cobb rendering of the space jockey in his chamber.

DAN O'BANNON: Ron Cobb did the skeleton - what they later called the space jockey - and it was just perfect! It had a very large cranium and four or five eye sockets. Very small jawbone - no teeth to speak of.
