DID YOU KNOW. . .

. . .you can obtain a historical marker for your home from the Jefferson County Historical Commission. Not only do they add interest and curb appeal to your home, but they enhance the historical character of Five Points South. Also, real estate agents swear they increase property value. To obtain more information and an application for a marker contact The Jefferson County Historical Commission at 205-324-0988 Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

To get you started on the research of your home, the Birmingham Historical Society has published a book, "House Detective: A guide to Researching Birmingham Buildings" it can be puchased online at http://www.bhistorical.org/publications/housedetective.html or is on reference at the public library.

Also, in your research, visit the Jefferson County Board of Equalization Appraisal Files, available in the Birmingham Public Library (downtown) to obtain a historic photograph of your property. You will need your properties Parcel Identification Number to retrieve the file. You can contact them at 226-3630 for further information.

Better Fences Make Better Neighbors

Robert Frost may have been right and the City of B'ham agrees, the city is currently assessing the rules on fences and will have a decision in the next day or two. If your fence is "under inspection" you will receive a letter.
