Manga Entertainment, 1993 (UK Release) 90 minutes

Plot: A once peaceful world is thrown into darkness when the evil general Taishakuten kills Tentei, the man chosen by the Gods to rule over the planet. According to legend, only six people have the power to stop the evil lord, they are known as the six points of the star. One of the six is the young daughter of the slaughtered Tentei, Ashura. Along with the mysterious warrior Yasha, the hot headed Ryuoh, the wise Karura and the agile Sohma, Ashura must fight her way into the castle of Taishakuten and bring an end to his evil tyranny.

This is actually two episodes of RG Veda on one tape.

Animation: This is what we've grown to expect from Japanese animation house Clamp - stunning character designs, fluid animation and well painted backgrounds. The fight scenes are impressive, but action fans be warned - this isn't none stop bloodshed.

Sound: Interestingly, the dub was recorded in the UK, so all the voices are English. This lends a more authentic tone to the piece. It remains one of the best dubs I've heard, and the talent on show is impressive - Linus Roache, who lends his vocal talents to Yasha, has appeared in several BBC productions and feature films, including the British film Priest. The music was also recorded outside of Japan by Nick Wood. His score is more western in tone, but works well with the action.

Summary: A nice piece of anime fantasy. Not too heavy on the gore, swearing and nudity, and aimed a wide audience. A average Clamp production, basically. Recommended.
