A Tucunare
(Peacock Bass) which colors yellow, black, green, and with
the head's inferior part in red - dominates the scenery
swimming in respectable shoals and, with an uncontrollable
fury, attacking mercilessly any body that crosses the way,
alive or artificial. It is such the amount of individuals
for each shoal, that in several occasions, is common to
hook two fishes in the same lure. The medium load varies
among 2,5 to 3,0 kilos, and the largest cross the five
kilos.
The family of
rounded fishes is also one of the biggest attractive in
Medium Guapore. The shoals of tambaquis are easily found
in cascades or close to pauleiras (wood under water), and
they can be hooked with categorized heavy weight
equipment, being the minhocuçu and some types of fruits,
the most attractive baits. The medium load of these
specimens reachs 12 kilos, however the largest ones cross
the double of this weight easily.
With behavior, load
and silhouette alike, the Pirapitinga is another monster
of this family, having individuals' report with more than
40 kilos. They frequent the same places and they can be
captured with the same equipment and baits.
In the upper narrow
part of the river there are high ravines and wells,
favorite habitat of the great Pirararas, Cacharas and
Capararis. Unlike what happens in other rivers, the
passages that precede the beaches, since there are aquatic
vegetation thickets (camalotes or aguapés), are also
promising fishing points, above all for the Cachara, that
can be hooked in surprising amounts.
Small Pirararas and
Capararis habitually frequent these same atmospheres, and
as they take turns visiting the bait of the fisherman, the
result of each throw is always a pleasant surprise. At the
beaches, in a silent approach, is common to visualize
shoals of those three species. In fact, in the shore of
the river and inside of the stalls, it is not a rare fact
capturing them with lures - mainly with the ones of slow
sinking or running floating.
The existence of
other fishes contributes to those that like well
diversified fishing. Among them, there are the Matrinxa
(whose medium type weight around a kilo); the Corvina,
weight two kilos around; the Apaiari or Paca-açu; the two
Cachorras types – Larga and Facão - and the Apapá, that
can reaches seven kilos.
