Mathematical, Dilbert and other Lego Creations [permanent link]
Lego is a favourite way to build things for children and adults as well. Andrew Lipson's Lego site has pictures of a number of lego creations including some using the fascinating Lego Mindstorms kit. Two interesting parts of the site are his creations of Mathematical figures and Dilbert figures.

This National Geographic News article looks at the construction work being done to rebuild the Pentagon by September 11, 2002. Work has now being completed on the exterior of the Pentagon. One interesting fact: breaking the ground for construction work on the Pentagon began on September 11, 1941. An interesting coincidence.

Why you weight more on a carpet [permanent link]
Something that looks like an urban legend is actually true. This New Scientist article states that you do weight less on a hard surface than on a carpet. It is not a magic trick; it has to do with how the carpet supports the bathroom scales, which results in a suble distortion of the scales causing the weight difference.

FIFA World Cup ends: Brazil are World Champions [permanent link]
Well, the FIFA World Cup is finally over with Brazil crowed the champions after a 2-0 win over Germany. The next FIFA World Cup will be held in Germany in 2006. In the meantime, you can visit the Yahoo! FIFA World Cup or the BBC News FIFA World Cup sites for round-up information.
