Fire Safety

The Hawesville Fire Department promotes fire prevention in several different ways. We go into the Hancock County Schools and educate the children on smoke detectors, escape plans, and other fire safety topics. We also have an annual Halloween Open House. At this event, children and their parents tour the station and participate in activities pertaining to fire safety behavior. Some of these include:
A puppet show about matches & lighters
Kitchen Safety
Stop, Drop, & Roll
Smoke Detectors
Child Safety House
911 Addressing
Friendly Firefighter
Electrical Safety
There are approximately 500 people who visit our Halloween Open House each year. We also have treats, door prizes, and refreshments at this event. It's always a great time!

The department also finished "Project: Life" at the end of 1999. This project consisted of visiting all of the residents in the Hawesville city limits. We checked each home for smoke detectors. If they didn't have any, then we installed the detectors for them. We also replaced the batteries in the ones that existed.

Below are some fire safety links. They are mainly for children, but parents can learn a lot from them also.
