Cleveland State (4-3) vs.
Kent State (4-0)

CSU Convocation Center
Cleveland, Ohio
Saturday, December 14, 2002, 7:00 p.m.
Radio: WKNR 850-AM

Last Year - Kent State won, 66-62 (Flashes lead series, 19-17)

Probable Starters CSU - G Jermaine Robinson (Jr., 6-1, Philadelphia, PA), G Walt Chavis (So., 5-11, Steelton, PA), F Andre Williams (Sr., 6-5, Clayton, NJ), F Tahric Gosley (Sr., 6-8, Philadelphia, PA), C Pape Badiane (Jr., 6-11, les Ulis, France)
Kent State - G Eric Haut (Jr., 6-0, Lansing, MI), G DeAndre Haynes (So., 6-2, Detroit, MI), F Antonio Gates (Sr., 6-5, Detroit, MI), F Anthony Wilkins (Sr., 6-7, Cleveland, OH), F Nate Gerwig (So., 6-9, Pittsburgh, PA)
Guards

The only starting guard left from last year's contest is Robinson, but Haut has made a statement over the past couple of games with his scoring ability.

Advantage - Kent State
Forwards Gates was one the driving forces behind the Flashes' Elite Eight run. But the frontcourt was held in check by Williams and Gosley, keeping the boards relatively even in the contest. Look for much of the same this time around.
Advantage - Even
Center Badiane was ineligible last season for this contest, so this will be the first match-up with the larger Gerwig. But Badiane, who played sparingly against Michigan State, could be able to have a nice game.
Advantage - Even
Reserves Both teams are relatively committed to an 8-man rotation. However, the Viking bench, which features shooters Percell Coles and Modibo Niakate, has been the more prolific of the two, though inconsistency has be its Achilles heel.
Advantage - Cleveland State
Coaches Flashes coach Jim Christian happened to be in the right place at the right time with the resignation of Stan Heath. If Rollie Massimino can motivate his team after the drubbing to Michigan State, this game will be close.
Advantage - Even
Final Score Kent State 60, CSU 57 - While the Flashes haven't exactly faced the stiffest competition in the NCAA, the Vikings may still be smarting from the debacle in East Lansing.
