George Orwell - Biographies and General Links
George Orwell: This is a page with a biography of Orwell from the Grolier encyclopedia. There are some comments from the author around favorite books and a few other links that relate to another of Orwell's book: 1984. The author is apparently a Brazilian who was deeply affected by Orwell.

The Chestnut Tree Caf�: This is more appropriate for those doing research over needing help on the book. This website is devoted to George Orwell in all his forms. There are essays exploring the role of the book in schools, Orwell as a 'spy' as well as a standard biography.

Charles Orwell Links: Another collection of links to Orwellian studies. Some of the links are broken, and others are repeated above. I did not check every site out for veracity.

Animal Farm - General References
Novel Guide / Animal Farm: This page is like an online cliffnotes. It contains a very good summary of the major metaphors within the book as well as novel summary, character profiles and a theme analysis.

Orwellian and Animal Farm Resources: Another teacher's page similar to this one. It has a variety of pages (not all scanned) under many topics.

Animal Farm Notes: I'm not sure who wrote this page, but it is well put together in terms of breakdown and ease of reading. Not only does it include the novel summary and character breakdown, but it includes literary criticism as well. This is a very good site for a non-official page.

George Orwell Resources: A compilation of a variety of resources about Orwell. Included on this page are pictures, book summaries, biographies and critical essays.

Animal Farm and Orwell - Historical Documents
Orwell's preface to Animal Farm: This page is rather interesting. The first screen is yet another biography of Orwell. As you scroll down, however, you are able to read the orginal preface to Animal Farm.

Political Writings of George Orwell: A collection of newspaper articles and magazine articles about the author. Many are dated pieces from the 40s.

Animal Farm - Critiques
Orwell vs. Marx: While I do not normally advocate items from geocities (hah - look at me!), this author does say this is an undergraduate essay. This essay looks at Orwell's beliefs (as addressed in Animal Farm and other essays) versus what Marx preached. While not as pertinent to a 9th grade class, it is very interesting.
