Historical information - Greece
The Perseus Digital Library , sponsored by Tufts University. This website is a specialist site for all things ancient. They do have links to the full story, but they also have commentary and historical notes. Search for Homer or The Odyssey.
General Resources - The Odyssey
The Epic Page - While this page contains a lot of information that is not needed, it does include a lot of information of Homer, a mythology dictionary and several interesting articles about epics in general. For those who really enjoy The Odyssey, there are links to other epics.
Homer's Odyssey Resource on the Web - This is a really neat site if you have a few hours to explore it! It contains the full work, broken down into the different translations. In addition, it has commentary towards the bottom of the page with timelines, character lists and many, many essays.
The Literature Web - This link leads to another version of the Odyssey online. It does have a good link to a map, as well as basic information about Homer.
Odyssey Study Guides and Resources - This person has done his/her homework! There are many options and choices on this site.
The Odyssey - This is an online version of the full text. There is also commentary added throughout the work.
Study Guide for Homer's The Odyssey - This is a book by book breakdown of what occurs in the story. Students might get confused as we deal with only portions of the story in our class.
Thinkquest: Homer's Illiad and Odyssey - Thinkquest is a computer challenge for students around the world. This webpage is the product of the 1998 challenge. This site has a lot of information about Homer, the historical time period as well as the work in question.
Greek Mythology
Mythweb - This site is fantastic and kid safe. It contains a lot of information about Greek Mythology, but also has a great section on the Odyssey. Odysseus can be found under www.mythweb.com/odysseus. He is also under the "Hero" section of teacher's materials.
