Day 4 - Part 10

Making the video…

9.48 am

TITO: We're even more late now. But what can you expect if you have to work under conditions like these?

Nick sitting in a chair drinking something hot.

NICK: I'll bet I'll get a huge cold after this. And who's the blame? Well, our friend Carlos of course. But he wont be there once we leave Portugal. So what does he care? I mean… He wants to do his art. And we have to suffer.

Few moments later, after some whispered words from Samuel.

NICK: But we have to suffer for what's good for us. I mean anyone can direct a music video but we need Carlos' talent. He's going to make it as good as he can. And we have to help him. Right? So if I get cold… It doesn't really matter.

Carlos standing next to the big white horse.

CARLOS: Next one will be hard, because we have to shoot movement. Nick will be arriving to the beach with this horse and then spot girl sitting there. In final version it will be cut so that scene in the water comes to the middle and then we see them riding away together.

Nick has some makeup put on.

NICK: Well, at least they don't have to worry drying our hair.

He pets his head and grins at the camera. Then his smile fades when he sees something. Camera turns to shoot what's there. Cara stands talking to Samuel, her gestures are angry, she waves at the horse and argues a lot. Samuel tries to tap her on her shoulder but she doesn't let him. Camera turns back to catch wrinkle between Nick's eyes.

CARLOS: Come on Nick, we're all ready for you!

Nick hesitates for a while but then stands up to perform his duty.

Water that caressed her feet took her breath every time. Every time water came closer she tried to pull away but couldn't. Tears ran down her face but they comforted her since they were like warm, light touch of fingers on her face. Like Nick's previous night.
She heard horse riding closer and shivered. She looked away. But he came closer, he kneeled next to her, asked if she was okay. She stared to the distance, not knowing what to do, nod or shake her head. Anything she would do, try to move or say something, would make her sob and bawl her eyes out. She couldn't do anything. So she sat there like frozen statue. And when he finally caressed back of her neck his fingers were cold like they had belonged to dead man.

11.15 am

Carlos and Tito walking to the car.

CARLOS: Finally done.
TITO: Can I give you just one advice?
CARLOS: No.
TITO: Never work with amateurs.
CARLOS: ˇEstupendo!

Shot from far from the window of moving car:

Cara still sits on the shore, someone's wrapping robe around her but she's not doing any effort to help. Focus on Nick striding away from her, looking frustrated.

It gets me to wonder why they didn't show horse riding at all. So against all the odds I wind the tape forward. Next few shots are from parts where other guys do their show but it seems irrelevant because she hasn't commented it at all. I also jump over their music video since I've seen it so many times and still am not over to being amazed how good it is. And how could it was supposed to be, bringing Boys back to the business.
There are few minutes black after the video and I get to wonder if she doesn't comment anymore and I feel empty. But then, like in old movies, little jumpy picture comes into my eyes. It's been shot with one camera, from distance so picture is blurry. There is voiceover but it's not her voice. It is Ophelia. Indeed once again in action.

-I'm sorry if this is shaky.
Voice wasn't more than a whisper.
-I can only use one hand since the other has been bound up. I know I should be up in the house. Billy's gonna freak out when he realizes I'm gone. Poor guy has too much faith on people sometimes.
She zoomed into Cara who was standing in the sand looking at the horse they were bringing to her.
-Shit. She hates horses. She told me once she hates every big animal. Cows make her freak out completely. Horses are not far from that. My head may be messed up but even I know this is not good.

Cara was lifted up and Nick reached for her and took her sitting in front of him. She fit like she was supposed to be there and for a moment Nick wanted nothing more than to stuck his nose into back of her neck and smell her the way she was right then, after sun and freezing cold sea water, salty and sweet at the same time.
-Let's take this easy, Cara said with soft voice.
Horse started walking slowly and little by little she relaxed. But when Nick realized cameras all around and heard Carlos giving them last minute advice, he flinched and his feet pressed against to the sides of their mount.

Nick did want to make it stop. He tried to stop it. But Cara shook so much that horse freaked out even more than her. They galloped along the beach leaving crew and camera far behind. She cried out loud like Nick hadn't ever heard anyone doing - well, he wasn't there previous night to listen Ophelia when she was sure she was about to die. Finally horse slowed down, probably because it was tired of running, not so much because of Nick's worthless efforts to stop it. Nick managed to turn it around and started heading back to shocked group.
Cara bit her fit, sitting up with perfect posture even if Nick had wrapped his arm around her, trying to calm her down, whispering to her ear that it was allright.
-I hate horses, she said just few meters before animal trainer who was there to take care of them.
-Why didn't you tell? Nick asked. She shivered and didn't answer.

-I'm not sure what's going on now, Ophelia's voice came back. -I think Nick's going after her. This is weird. I haven't seen him like that with anyone. Has there happened something between them? Well, at least there is now.
Nick paced after Cara who walked away, without answering any questions concerning her well-being. She walked until she felt water in her feet. But when she sat down she felt nothing, she saw nothing, all her emotions were just pieces of reality, passing by, then coming back, running over her time after time. But she was too tired to cling to anything. She heard voices but they were like song or laughter, continuous sound with no pauses or sense. She was lifted up and walked to a car where they dressed her up very well, fearing that she might catch a cold. She did say she was okay but when they finally let her go after a complete check in the house she didn't know which way to go.
