The world has not seen magic for 1000 years and it's due to the war of the Magi, a war that wiped out the race. However, the empire has rediscovered it. After sightings of sorcerers and witches the war may occur again. The game has a mix of more than just magic and some of it's more like technology but it's up to your team of characters to save this position at a time of tragedy.
