Ch. 1��A Light Snow�
The large, mechanical suits of armor stomp through the thin blanket of snow, crinkling it with every step. Ceaselessly & arduously they tromp up the mountain. Now at last, they reach the summit. Silently, the 2 men gaze out over the horizon, surveying more mountains.
�How can someone live in a place this cold?� complains Wedge, breaking the silence.
�Pipe down!� gripes Biggs. �It�ll get warmer once we reach the coal mines city.�
�But Narshe is a full days march away! I think I�m getting frostbite�� Wedge sniffs. �I wish this cockpit that I�m sitting in had a heating unit.�
�Magitek Armor isn�t designed to provide comfort, Wedge. Still�� Biggs muses. �Girl! Stop lagging behind & get over here!�
A girl riding a third armored machine marches up to them. �Yes?� she asks flatly.
�We want you to use your magic to make us a fire,� orders Biggs.
Wedge interjects, �Are you nuts?! I heard she fried 50 armored soldiers in under 3 minutes!�
�So? �Relax, that slave crown around her neck robs her of all conscious thought,� assures Biggs. �She�ll follow orders.�
�Speaking of which, what do you think of our mission?�
Biggs sighs. �I just want this over with. I got a kid at home.�
�But don�t you think it�s interesting?� Wedge pursues.
�What ARE you talking about?� returns Biggs.
Wedge explains, �You know, the urgency of our orders� the frozen Esper that was found� not to mention this girl with the green hair.�
Biggs turns his mechanized body suit around to look at her. All he gets in return is a calm expression & blank stare. �Enough of this.� He suddenly commands, �Let�s move out.�
