| They turned and watched Jade , now clean, climb out of the lake. She stopped to shake the water out of her fur and all over MyKai. At the far end of the meadow, Fields of Crabgrass leaned agenst a tree, her breathing slow and raspy. She was liveing on borrowed time now. She could barely meet the demands the Blight made on her for energy. With the death of the Visarous plant, which VisionAri had killed, Crabgrass was forced to forage for food. She had saved a seed from the plant, but it would take another week before it was large enough to harvest energy from. She didn't have a week. She stood up, hissing, "I'll get you for this Heather. I'll make you suffer." Crabgrass limped into the forest, chuckling to herself. It started later that day. First, Twilight can running into the main hall scared out of her mind. After she calmed down she told of how she had been walking in the forest. Something had started stalking her, whispering her name and laughing. "When I heard a twig snap right behind me, I ran." said Twilight, trembling in Kai21's arms. A few hours later, Kitchen Possum came running threw the doors. It took a half hour to coux her out from behind the stove. She told of how something had attacked her in the woods. "It grabed at me, chased me back here and laughed the whole time." said the shaky Possum, as she drowned her fears in a large margaretta. "It's Crabgrass," said Heather, standing, wraped in Kai 13's arms. Unshed tears gleaming in her eyes. "She's trying to hurt me through the rest of you." EveningStar, her mouth set in a grim line, turned, "Ghia, Doffy, close the gates and keep them shut. We can't do anything about her tonight. Tommarow we'll start looking for Crabgrass." Everyone was on edge that night, there was little laughter at the dinner table. Even the animals were unnatruly quiet. It got worse. Just as dinner finished there came a comotion from outside. VA opened the main doors to see Ghia helping a stagering PerfectBlue inside. He was bleeding from a nasty gash on his head. Behind them came Doffy and Max, carrying an unconsous Tressia between them. Blue grimaced as Dgre held a bandage to his head, "I was walking the battlements when I found Tressia. I bent over the check her when someone hit me from behind." "I heard someone groaning," said Max, "Imagin my surprise when I found Tressia out cold and Blue bleeding all over the place." EveningStar said, "Get everyone inside, lock or block anyway inside. Da*n it that little b*tch isn't getting in here tonight." Once the fortress was locked up tight, everyone went to bed but no one slept. Heather spent a sleepless night silently crying in Kai 13's arms. Max stood in the main hall, leaning agenst the massive table. The hall was almost completly dark, except for a few torches and a low fire in the large fireplace. VisionAri sat on the table next to Maaxx. "You couldn't sleep?" asked Maaxx. "Nope." sighed VA, "I've been thinking about her." "Crabgrass?" "No, Heather. I've never seen her like this." said Va softly. "She's scared, VA. More scared then she's ever been." Max sighed looking around. Suddenly he felt a chill. "VA, where's Misty?" VA followed Max's gaze, to the short marble pillar, with it's large velvet pillow on top, which should have been covered by the large white cat. "I don't know?" Just then, from outside came a faint noise. Max ran to the door, unlocked it and steped outside. Off in the distance came the noise again. mmmeeeeooooowwwwww Max turned to VA, "Wake everyone up." He then ran across the court yard. "MAX, wait!" shouted VA, but he had already jumped to the top of the battlements and was gone. VA cursed under her breath as she ran upstairs. Max ran threw the forest towards the pityful meows. Finnaly he found Misty. She was covered with mud and leaves, clinging to a tree, about twenty feet up. Misty shouted, "MAX, behind you!!!!!" Something slammed into Max's back, knocking him to the ground. He rolled, just missing the blade that stabed the ground where he had been. Crabgrass stood over him, raiseing her black twisted sword above her head. "oooooooo You'll be much more fun then a itty bitty kitty." laughed Crabgrass. Max rolled away, Crabgrass's sword slashing the ground where his head had been. Max jumped to his feet, unsheathing his sword, Hellfiredragon. Crabgrass laughed as she charged Max. There swords clashed, the sound ringing threw the forest. Max blocked her attack and slashed upward. Crabgrass jumped back, laughing. "Not bad," said chuckled, "But not good enough." she charged again. Max was waiting for this. He ducked under Crabgrass's blade and stabed upward. She tryed to twist away, but the blade caught her between two ribs. She back away, snarling, as red sap ooozed from the wound. |
