November 2004 in Ethiopia

Buiten grote vakanties om doen we ook best leuke dingen, zoals een weekendje weg en meedoen aan de Great Ethiopian Run (maar dan lopend).  Ook zijn er soms leuke kiekjes te maken rond het huis. Apart from longer holidays we do other nice things too, such as going out for a weekend and participating in the Great Ethiopian Run (walking).  And sometimes nice snap shots can be made around the house.

Saman is 2 jaar/years + 4 m

Saman helpt graag bij klusjes in en rond het huis.  Even snel een wasje draaien voor de hash op zaterdagmiddag, geen probleem, al moet ik half de trommel in! Saman likes to help out in and around the house.  A quick load of laundry before going to the hash on Saturday afternoon, no problem, even if I have to half enter the machine!. 13 /11/04

Weekendje weg naar de Aragesh Lodge in Yirgalem, ten zuiden van Awassa. Geweldig leuk huisje, prachtige omgeving om te wandelen en in de schemering fotosessie met hyenas. Weekend away to Aragesh Lodge in Yirgalem, south of Awassa.  Nice little house, beautiful environment for hiking and photo sessions with hyenas in the twilight. 20/11/04

Zondag 28 november deden we mee aan de Great Ethiopan Run, een loopfestijn met 20 000 deelnemers door het centrum van Addis Abeba.  Het traject was 10 km, door de snelle renners -soms op blote voeten- in ongeveer een half uur afgelegd, terwijl de wandelaars binnen 2 uur binnen moesten zijn, anders geen medaille.  Sunday 28 November we participated in the Great Ethiopian Run, together with 20,000 others through the center of Addis Ababa.  The route was 10 km, which took the runners -sometimes barefoot- about half an hour while the walkers had to be back witing 2 hours otherwise there wouldn't be a medal. 28/11/04

Fred trok enorm veel bekijks met zo'n grote Saman op zijn rug.  Mensen langs de kant begonnen spontaan te applaudiseren en "father, father!" te scanderen en iedereen met een camera, inclusief de nationale tv, wilde het interessante tafereeltje vastleggen.  De sfeer was geweldig en we hebben ons prima vermaakt.  Saman had ook voldoende te zien dus geen probleem om totaal zo'n 3 uur in de rugzak te zitten (ja Fred had de volgende dag wel wat spierpijn).  Met de medaille wordt nu nog steeds gespeeld. Fred was admired by the crowd as he carried a big Saman on his back.  People started applauding spontaneously and chanting "father, father!"  while everybody with a camera, including national tv, wanted to register this interesting scene.  The atmosphere was just wonderful and we had a great time.  For Saman there was enough to see too, so he had no problem being carried for some 3 hours (yes Fred had some muscle aches the next day).  He still enjoys playing with the medal. 28/11/ 04
