Thursday March 23, 2006 - In what was an exciting FFCRHL Semi-Finals, one series went the distance and another resulted in a sweep.  After an upset of the Whoopers in the Survivor Series, the number 5 ranked Oil took on the top seeded Flyers in Semi-Final series #1.  After loosing the first game the Oil took in the ice in game number two looking to take the top team out early.  But early first period goals by the Flyers had the Oil down and out, as they went on to sweep the them in two games.  This could be the last game in Oil team history as the team has reported that they disbanding and going to other teams.  "We just couldn't keep up with them," said Oil forward Jason Mandes, "they showed why they are the top team."  Although is was a two games to none win, both games were a lot closer than the scores would dictate, as this was a very physical series with both teams taking a large amount of penalty minutes.  This series was the end to a very entertaining Oil/Flyers rivalry that will never be match again in the FFCRHL.  In the other series, the Whalers and Stones took went the distance in a grueling three game series with the number 2 ranked Whalers taking the edge, and win, in game three.  The Whalers and Flyers will tangle in the first of the best of three game Championship series this Monday March 27 at 8:00.

Oil Eliminate Whoopers In Survivor Series
Monday March 20, 2006 - Twenty-two points seperated the Oil and Whoopers, but it didn't tell the story in last night's Survivor Series playoff round.  The number fifth ranked Oil looked like a hungry team last night knocking off the fourth ranked Whoopers 5 - 3.  The Whoopers looked flat as the young Oil team beat them to every loose puck and disected the only lead the Whoop had early in the first.  You couldn't tell this Oil team finished 21 games under .500.  The Oil now move on to the semi-finals were they face the #1 ranked Flyers, who beat the Oil in all seven games they met in this season.  But it was the Oil who knocked out the defending champion Flyers in the playoffs a year ago.  Game 1 goes tonight at 8:00 as well as the other semi-final series when the Whalers face the Stones at 9:15.
Flyers Sweep - Whalers Win In Three - Set Up #1 vs. #2 Final
Whalers Take Game 1 In Shoot-Out
Monday March 27, 2006 - The Whalers capped off a come from behind victory in Game 1 of the Best of 3 FFCRHL Final last night with a 2 - 1 win in a shoot-out.  After scoring the tying goal with less than 2 seconds left in the final frame, the Whalers Corey Thompson scored the game winner as the fourth shooter in the shootout, after overtime solved nothing.  Game 2 goes tonight at the Creighton Sportext, game time is 8:00.
Whalers Crowned FFCRHL Champions
Tuesday March 28, 2006 - For the second straight night it took an extra frame and a shootout, and for the second straight night it was the same winners.  It only took two shooters each, but the Whalers win the FFCRHL Championships with a 6 - 5 win and take the series 2 - 0.  Unlike last night it was a highly offensive game with each team taking chances.  The Flyers were unable to beat Whalers goaltender Jason Moran in the shootout but goals by Kris Lee and Mike Korchinski, gave the Whalers the win.  The Flin Flon/Creighton Rec Hockey League would like to thank all the teams and officials for a great season.  Have a good summer and see you next year.
