TEA PLANTS

Tea ( Camelia Sinensis ), is part of the Camelia family. It generally grows in tropical areas between 200 - 2,000 meters above sea level at a temperature of 14° - 25° Celsius. When fully grown, Tea trees can reach as high as 9 meters for Tea plants from China and Java - Indonesia, and 12 to 20 meters for Tea plants from Assamica, India. However, to facilitate the plucking of Tea leaves and to obtain good young leaves at the tip of their branches, the Tea plants are always pruned and kept at one meter tall.

Since Tea has developed into a commodity, the number of varieties of Tea plants has also increased. These varieties have been produced by various crossings of Tea plants. The influence of the soil and climate also produces different types of Tea. Today, there are about 1,500 types of Tea in the world, originating from 25 different countries. However, basically the types of Tea can be classified into 3 major categories: BLACK TEA, Oolong Tea, Green Tea / Jasmine Tea
