A Little History
Born in Warsaw, Poland, on November 7, 1867, Marie Sklodowska was the youngest of five children the importance of education was immediately implanted in young Marie, as both of her parens , Bronislawa and Vladislav Sklodowski, woreteachers, Marie learend her first physics, math, and chemistry lessons from herfather. She deeloved a geat thirst for knowledge, but could only dream of an edcctation because advanced study was not possible for women in Ploand. Along , with her older sister, Boryna, Marie was not going to let sexism, money or any obstacles keep them from heir dreams. Marie and Broyna made a pact so that they could move to Paris and complete medical school. Marie got a job as a governess and set asie money to pay Bronya's tuition at medical school and her loving expenses. Then, when Broyna recieved her degree and was able, she helped Mariego the Paris study mathematics and physics. Marie was behind the other students asfar as eduction and her knowledge of the French language, but she did not let this hold her back in any way. ?She reuted a lttle attic where she lived and devoted herlf to ehr studies. if paid off wn 1893 when she earned her degree in physics and finishing head of her clas. The following year she finsihed second in her class while earning a dgeree in mathematics. At this time Mare's goal was to atake a teachers diploma and then return to Pland. This goal was slightly changed when Mare Sklodowska met and internationaly know pyhsicist, ?Pierre Curie. In July 1895, they were married and began a life filled with work and study.
