@@Xuan Kong Da Gua, or the Mysterious Void School as the name suggests, is still an empty mystery to many students of Feng Shui. Its history and development, and its struggle to unravel the secrets of Heaven make fascinating reading. The name Xuan Kong some of the masters believe it is space (a mystery) and time (a void). Well, as a Xuan Kong Master just like me, I will say that is wrong. If someone who is deeply interested the real meaning of Xuan Kong, he or she can go to the Chinese version of my web-site. there has a lot of stories telling about the Xuan Kong Feng Shui.

@@According to Zeng-Wen-Shan in his book Qing-Nang-Xu(mCnǡnPreface to The Azure Bag) written during the Tang Dynasty (N618AD-907AD), Guo Pu (276AD-324AD) of Jin Dynasty(ʥN) had already begun to pass down the art of Xuan Kong Da Gua. By the time of the Tang Dynasty, Yang Jun-Song(aQ) had mentioned in his book Qing-Nang-Ao-Yu(mCnynThe Profound Sayings of the Azure Bag) that:

The intercourse of Ci-Xiong(۶) or male (Yang) and female (Yin) come together in "Xuan Kong"

and that one should:

Look to Wu Xing (the 5 agents/5 Elements) to understand Xuan Kong Da Gua

@@That is the principle of Xuan Kong Da Gua lies with the interaction of Yin and Yang forces and the Five Agents of Nature (Wu Xing ).

@@He also mentioned that the secrets of Xuan Kong Da Gua rested in the Ai-Xing-Shu(P the method of knowing how the stars take off in a chart). However, Master Yang never divulged how this was done.

@@There was an ancient tale too, said Yang's art was passed onto Wu Jing-Luan (d}) during the Tong Dynasty (960AD-1279AD). He came from De Xing country (now Jiang Xi province). His grandfather Wu Fa-Wang was also an expert in astrology and Feng Shui. He sent Jing-luan father to study with the famous Chen Tuan in Hua Shan. Subsequently, Jing-luan learned his art from his grandfather and father and became well known himself.

@@In 1041, the Imperial Court invited him to become its Yin-Yang expert giving advice to the Emperor himself. When he was asked to make comments about the imperial burial ground he was too frank, and said that the place has Kun Wind (Yin Qi) that will affect the Emperor and his mother's future. Song Emperor Ren Zong(v) was not pleased and locked him up in jail. He was not released until Ren Zong died and his son Hui Zong(v) pardoned him.

@@After his release, Jing-luan became a recluse and spent the rest of his life in a cave in Bai Yun Shan (White Cloud Mountain) not far from his hometown. He passed his art onto his daughter (Wu had no son) and wrote many books on Kan Yu() astrology, including Li Qi Xin Yin? (mzߦLnPrinciples of Qi from the Heart) and Master Wu's explanation of the Yimgn

@@The art was later passed onto Jiang Da-Hong during the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368 ?1644). Jiang Da-Hong was from Jiang Su Province(Ĭ١AnثFH) , he claimed to have obtained Wu Ji Zi(Ll) genuine transmission, but he did not dare to break the@prohibitions of Heaven's Laws.(1)

@@In keeping with the tradition of thou shall not divulge the secrets of Heaven, none of these masters from Jin to Qing Dynasties (almost 1500 years) explained how the Stars would Fly in their books written for the public. The secret of the orbit of the Nine Stars was passed down solely by discipleship or within the family through word of mouth. Because of the secrecy surrounding the transmission of the art, Flying Stars Feng Shui began to die out until the middle of the Qing Dynasty (1644- 1911), when there was a revival of interest in the Song culture, including Xuan-Kong Feng Shui.

@@Shen Zhu-Reng(Hr) of the late Qing Dynasty, who made an effort to study Jiang Da-Hong's work without much success, decided to seek out the secrets of the Flying Stars. In 1873, he went with his cousin Wu Bo-On to the town of Wu-Xi(L) in Jiang Su(Ĭ) to seek out the children of a Feng Shui master called Zhang Zhong-Shan(s) who had the real secrets of the Xuan Kong Ai Xing from Jiang Da-Hong. They stayed in Wu-Xi for several months without learning anything. In the end they had to pay a large sum of money just to have a look at the manuscript written by Zhang Zhong-Shan and kept in the family as a treasure by his offspring. The manuscript was called Yin-Yang-Liang-Zhai-Lu-Yan(mGvnRecord of Experience of Yin and Yang Dwellings) which were file notes of Zhang's consultations. They secretly copied the whole manuscript by hand in 24 hours and took it home with them to study in detail. (2)

@@When Shen Zhu-Reng was alive he had many disciples. He started to write up his lifetime's work in a book called Shen's Xuan Kong(mHȪžǡnShen's Study of the Mysterious Void) but died before he could finish it. It was completed by his son Shen Zu-Mian and disciple/friend Jiang Yu-Sheng and published under his name in 1927. The book included explanation of how to set out the Flying Stars patterns and the practice notes of Zhang Zhong-Shan.

@@Altough During the development of Xuan Kong Fling Stars from Shen Zhu-Reng, because his theories and Understanding was not revealed clearly, there were many conjectures and guesses, which led to many different schools of interpretations and many different false fabrications. Some of the false methods included: -

1. A rigid way of looking at the Qi of the Trigram(T). No matter what the sitting or facing directions are. Period 1 belonged to Kan Qi, Period 2 to Kun Qi, Period 3 to Zhen Qi, Period 4 to Xun Qi, Period 5 to Gen and Kun Qi, Period 6 to Qian Qi, Period 7 to Dui Qi and Period 8 to Gen Qi and so forth.

2. A fixed pattern for the distribution of Qi. No matter which star is in the Central palace. The star that flies into the Qian Palace will always have Wang (Prosperous) Qi and the star that flies into the Xun Palace will always have the Tong Gua (Commanding Trigram) Qi. This way, any house that faces or sits on the Qian and Xun Palace (that is, along the SE and NW axis) will always be auspicious.

3. The Fu-Mu-Gua (Father and Mother Trigram) always fly reverse, no matter what the facing direction is.

4. The Facing Star flies according to the Period Star Chart but the Sitting Star flies according to the 5th Period Chart only.

5. Use the Hetu pairing numbers to change the value of the stars. In Period 1, 6 adds 1. In Period 2, 7 adds 1. In Period 3, 8 adds 1 and so forth.

@@There were endless interpretations, making Xuan Kong the most mysterious and the most confusing school at the time.

@@In the beginning of Qing Dynasty, there were six major Xuan Kong Schools to be found in China. They were: -

1.@@@Shang Yu Pai, founded by Duan, Mu Guo-hu(ݤ)

2.@@@Dian Nan Pai, founded by Fan, Yi-Bin(Sy).

3.@@@Su Zhou Pai, founded by Zhu, Xiao-He(pb).

4.@@@Xiang Chu Pai, founded by Yin, You-Ben().

5.@@@Guang Dong Pai, founded by Cai, Min-Shan(s).

6.@@@Wu Chang Pai, founded by Zhang, Zhong-Shan(s).@

@@Although they all claimed Jiang Da-Hong to be their master, none of these 6 schools talked to each other. In fact, only Zhang Zhong Shan was the real Xuan Kong Da Gua's Descendant, the rest of them were only cliaiming. They wrote their books but could not tell the real secrets, except Master Zhang.

@@Zhang Zhong Shan, he was also a Famous Feng Shui Master in Jiang Su province of China in Mid-Qing Dynasty(Qian Long). In the early Qing Dynasty, Jiang Da-Hong published a Feng Shui book call "The Truth of Geography"(maz륿n), and this book collected five Geographic Li Qi(how to control the "Qi" of a house or tomb z) classic poems of Master Yang Yun-Song(3). Those were:

the "Qing Nang Jing"(the Azure Bag PoemmCngn)
the "Qing Nang Xu"(the Preface of the Azure BagmCnǡn)
the "Qing Nang Ao Yu"(the Secrets of the Azure BagmCnyn)
the "Tian Yu Jing"(the Poem of the Jade from Sky mѥɸgn)
and the "Dou Tian Bao Zhao Jing"(the Poem of Tao's Skym_Ӹgn)

@@Zhang Zhong Shan was According to the original meaning of Jiang's and published a book called "the Explanation of The Truth of Geography"(maz륿ѡn), and this book continued to finish the secrets which Jiang Da-Hong not exactly told In his book "the Truth of Geography". So, Jiang Da-Hong and Zhang Zhong Shan were the real Xuan Kong Maseters who got all the secrts of "Li Qi"!

@@As we can see from this brief history, although Xuan Kong Feng Shui has been around since the Jin Dynasty, that is more than 1,500 years, its secrets has not really been revealed until now!

@@Although Shen's book greatly influenced the practice of Feng Shui in modern day China, Hong Kong, Tai Wan and South East Asia, But Zhang Zhong Shan is the person who could really to get the credit of promoting Xuan Kong Da Gua.

@@Together Ba Zhai Pai, Xuan Kong Da Gua and San He Pai are the three most popular feng shui schools in practice today.

Line of masters of Xuan Kong Feng Shui:

Huang Shi(N-ۤ Qin Dynasty)

Guo Pu (Jin Dynasty)

Yang Yun-Song (Late Tang ong Dynasty)

Wu Jing-Luan (Song Dynasty)

Jiang Da-Hong (Late Ming Dynasty)

Zhang Zhong-Shan (Mid-Qing Dynasty)

1: There were also many Xuan Kong Masters Before Jiang Da-Hong, but here only picked some important Masters.

2: This was a story told by Shen Zhu Reng, and without any confirmation and evidence!

3: Yang Yun-Song was not a real Xuan Kong Feng Shui Master. This Name was used to instead the real Master, in case to let other sects of Feng Shui masters to act bad things to the real Master.
