| THE CONCEPT OF ETERNAL LIFE I have lived long and well.I have not yet reached that biblical norm of threescore years and ten,but I am not far removed. In the course of those years, I have known heights and depths, community and loneliness,love and despair,life and death.I have entered expanded horizons and seen things beyond my ability to imagine or to articulate.I have also been driven into the contracted stance of a meager survival mentality in which my life was reduced to an existence so bare that it was hardly worth enduring.It is out of both the richness and the poverty of those experiences that I have come to think about,and even to place my hope in,a concept of eternal life.- |
