Links

On
this page are links, grouped only into the vaguest of categories and listed in no particular order thereafter, to other sites on this vast internet to which the author finds himself inexplicably drawn.  Clearly, the intent of such a page is to provoke in its reader a feeling of inferiority at his or her ignorance of such sites, and also to make any reader envious of the author's savvy or, dare we say it, "coolness."  But have no fear, for all you must do to likewise consider yourself savvy or "cool" is to follow each link to its respective example of snobbish punditry, foolish triviality, simpering banality, or drooling idolatry.  Better still, construct a shrine to yourself in a low-rent, deserted internet ghetto like GeoCities, and include a page of links to all of your favorite hipster hangouts.  Happy clicking!

Cool people:

The Onion - my ambition in life is to have my picture used as some creepy opinionated dweeb.

The Isthmus - it seems only weekly papers are worth reading anymore.

Cartoon Brew - you can't be a film nut and not have at least a passing interest in the 'toons.

Fighting Bob - I'm fighting mad, and so is this site.

Skeptical Inquirer - Lisa Simpson subscribes!

Retro Thing - ah, that lovely old crap you threw away and wished you hadn't.

The Progressive - there should be a "conservative" equivalent called The Regressive.

Low End Mac - find out about the latest Macs without neglecting the "old" models.

The Nation - now this is really a tradition worth keeping.

Savage Press - books from the north country.

Arkham House - books from parts unknown.

Kirsty MacColl - it seems only the good die young.

Rhino Records - Best. Records. Ever.

Eddi Reader - I seem to have a genetic predisposition for anything Scottish.

Weeeird stuff:

Futurama - your best source for Soylent Cola, Glagnar's Human Rinds, and Popplers.

Chad Vader - blame society; I do.

Venture Bros. - a superhero reality check; Dr. Orpheus is my favorite over-actor.

Most Extreme Elimination Challenge - gut-splitting show in need of good website.

Doctor Who - I was never a huge fan, but I like the Doctor just the same.              BAD WOLF

Government:

Wisconsin Historical Society - imagine this, a govt. agency that isn't evil!

NOAA - your taxpayer dollars at work--good work, in this instance.

PBS - I owe so much to PBS; for starters, it's where I first saw Carl Sagan's Cosmos.

Simon Schama's Power of Art - don't give a crap about art?  Not after watching this!

NOVA - probably I learned more from this show than from any boring science teacher.

Bill Moyers - never have I seen a show more probing and reasonable.

WPR - there aren't any commercial radio stations on my presets; what would be the point?

Old-Time Radio - close your eyes and use your imagination!

Whad'ya Know - not much, apparently!
