Volkswagen began to use Bosch fuel injection in 1973, for their air-cooled 1600. Those Volkswagens were some of the first cars available in the Unites States with fuel injection. It is ironic how Volkswagen used air cooled engines, which is almost archaic yet very pratical and reliable, but so technologically advanced to use fuel injection.
