"This is the second milestone for me and I am

DISCON 2002
A host of top executives, media personalities, and
celebrities addressed participants at The Philippines
Toastmasters Clubs annual conference and national
speech contest last April 26-28, 2002 at Dusit Hotel
Nikko. Although our club did not participated in the
conference as it coincided with the Company's summer
outing in Batangas, ATM Rene Aquino nevertheless updated
us on some highlights of the event last Friday. Governor
Alma Silla brought some memorabilia for the club.
Speakers included multi-awarded broadcasters Ces Drilon
and Julie Yap Daza; Team-Asia managing director, author,
and Manila Bulletin columnist Michael Alan Hamlin;
Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist and HR consultant
Mojie Ramos-Aquino; advertising executive and The
Philippine STAR columnist Tweetums Gonzales; Media Quest
president and Businessworld columnist Antonio Samson; TV
host Johnny Litton; and stage actress and broadcast
manager Dulce Ristorenas.
Active in over 70 countries worldwide and with more than
175,000 members in over 8,800 clubs, Toastmasters
International is the leading movement devoted to making
effective oral communication a worldwide reality
according to Carol Carreon, overall chair of the
Toastmasters Philippine District Conference. However, the
conference is also open to non-Toastmasters.
The conference was designed to help participants acquire
presentation skills that can improved their career paths
and enhance the quality of their lives. "DISCON 2002
will provide participants a two-day communication and
leadership training program that will cover topics on
improving public speaking, enhancing interpersonal and
managerial communication, organizing speeches, and
developing effective business communication,"
Carreon said.
By learning from experts who are not only accomplished
speakers but leaders in their respective fields as well,
Carreon said that DISCON 2002 will provide tools that
will enable participants company executives and
employees, individuals, and students become
effective communicators and leaders.
The two-day conference will also showcase exhibits on
communication services and equipment, personality
development, communication schools, and publications
focusing on speaking and leadership skills. (extracted
