January 2002

Jan. 25: Regular Toastmaster Meeting, Room 503 (2002-03)

President GP called the meeting in order and introduced Tony Soria (TS) as the Toastmaster of the Day. TS without further ado selected Rosette Hizon (RH) to be the table topic evaluator for questions 1-3 and selected Arleen Lim (AL) as evaluator for questions 4-5 respectively. Then, he presented Nestor Simon (NS) as the Table Topic Master.

NS asked Romar Dagani (RD) if he is willing to give his seat in the bus during rush hour. RD conditionally answered that if he felt that the lady deserved to take a seat, then he would likely give his seat. AL then replied to the second question that baring one's body in a movie is not an art. But she added that if it is a love scene then it needs a way of expressing it. VP-Pro Marissa Monsanto (MM) when questioned by NS which one of the two is applicable to the country, 1.) peace without order or 2.) order without peace. "This is a tricky question!" noted MM. Her answer even confused the audience. VP-Membership X Magnaye (XM) responded to the fourth question that when a relationship is broken, she will put herself, sharing everything want she love. XM mentioned that she experience it before and didn't give herself. A difficult situation was asked to TS: it is a day of their wedding anniversary and his wife is expecting him to come home early, then the boss is requesting him to stay work with an emergency in the office (even until wee hours of the morning), what shall he do? He retorted that he would balance the situation but he will call his wife postponing the wedding and go first with the problem in the office.

Hector Ore (HO) icebreaker speech, "Hector in the Limelight" talked about stages of his working experiences, family background, and love relationship. In his early days with AG&P, he was so envious with his co-workers that they were able to go abroad. "Your time will come", advised them. Then later his time indeed arrived, he was able to explore countries like theNetherland, Belgium, Germany, Paris, US where it is a dream come true. He became an early riser because of his father's wetting off his face in the early morning. He also talked about his girlfriend Elenor. OH is well prepared for he got only 2 AHs.

MM rolled out the contest rule in entering for international and local speech competition. She gave some materials and distributed flyers for Discon 2002 to be held on April 26-28, 2002 at Dusit Hotel in Ayala Center, Makati.

ATM Rene Aquino (ReA) went on with his educational portion about tips on how to prefer writing our speech that makes appealing to the audience's five senses.

Jan. 18: Regular Toastmaster Meeting, Room 503 (2002-02)

President Gladdy Patawaran (GP) called the session in order and introduced the magnificient Maria X Magnaye (XM) as the Toastmaster of the Day. XM made a brief remark on the objectives of the speech number 1, 5 and 8. After telling the purpose of the Table Topic, she called the magician Edwin Afaga (EA) to preside over the table topic questions where the theme was about the Year of the Horse.

EA drew some scary predictions about Year 2002 based on Chinese calendar and asked Boy Rueras (BR) what will be his reactions if he were the President of the Philippines and Rene Mariano predicted that this is a bad year for him. BR answers won him the Best Table Topic Speaker in which he said that he will not persecute the person who anticipated that remark to him. There were only two questions as Mercy Manalo (MeM) who coincidently was also born in the year of the horse proclaimed that she was not a believer of horoscope.

VP-Pro Marissa Monsanto (MM) started her speech no.8 with her high-tech "inspector" Gadgets As Toys. The barbie doll she used to play during childhood now became a cutting-edge PDA and Nokia 8250, that's why she was called Ms. Entrepreneur. Beautiful Rosette Hizon (RH) spoke with her speech no.5 about Age and Being Single. Erwin Rosario (ER) on his "My Icebreaker Speech" introduced himself and his family background. Multi-talented Milet Marquez (MiM)'s speech no.1 journey about her My Wonder Years childhood memories in Iran where she learned the culture and its rich language. Maridel Torres (MT) on her icebreaker speech titled Been There, Done That. Before starting she just asked Nestor Simon (NS) to be nice to him. Both MiM and MT have voted as Best Speaker of the Day. NS who evaluates MT speech consequently won him Best Evaluator of the Day.
