Faye Wong is a singer who originates from Beijing, and is now based in HK (although she still has a house in Beijing, and frequently goes back the mainland). She appeals to fans all over the world, which is slightly unusual for Chinese pop singers. The reason for this, is that Faye is no ordinary Chinese pop singer. Chinese pop music is generally quite "sickly", with its sugar coated melodies, which - in similarity to English pop songs - are generally disposable; they come and go. Faye's songs, however, stand out from the crowd. She is very ecclectic in her use of styles, sometimes being influenced by English bands ( The Cranberries, The Cocteau Twins). Also, her lyrics are not always simple affairs, they can sometimes be quite cryptic.
