There is no truth to the rumour that Tina will do some acting with the Golden Girls and Pricilla Presley.

TINA COMES BACK TO THE US

Tina Turner will add a second North American leg of 40 dates to her highly successful "Twenty Four Seven" tour, beginning in mid-September at Boston's FleetCenter. The 50-date first leg, which wraps June 17 at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J., has already grossed $40 million. Several markets will be revisited on the second leg, including Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Denver, Las Vegas, and Nashville.

Target is the tour sponsor for the second leg. Joe Cocker will support the first 20 dates; Lionel Richie plays in the current outing. SFX Touring is producing all shows, which are almost exclusively in arenas.

Turner will play European festivals this summer before starting on the new North American dates. The outing, which wraps in mid-December, is being billed as Turner's final touring effort and is in support of her latest Virgin set "Twenty Four Seven," which peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 in February.

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">TINA TURNER CONCERT REVIEW:

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">LOS ANGELES, 5/4/00

>“OK, so contrary to popular belief, time hasn't stood still for Tina Turner. But it sure seems to be trailing her like a frightened lap dog,” suggested The Los Angeles Times. “The soul-rocking dynamo has announced her retirement from large-venue touring after her current one because, at 61, she thinks it's time to scale things down. But if you think that means from now on she'll be taking things nice and easy, remember that Tina never, ever . . . well, you know the name of that tune.”

>“She certainly didn't take the mellow approach in the first of two nights at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim. (Her voice) is still a thing of wonder, it purrs, growls, scowls, scolds, shouts and rejoices with every ounce of authority it possessed three and four decades ago.”

>“So if it's now at least conceivable that the faithful won't be able to worship those golden calves forever, it's equally imaginable that the only thing standing in the way of Tina Turner singing on into eternity is a shortage of songs worthy of the heart and soul she pours into everything she tackles.”

>“Artistically, it means she's leaving fans on a note of recapitulation, albeit glorious recapitulation, instead of further rejuvenation as she heads into whatever she has in mind for the next phase of a remarkable 40-year career. Actually, the end of mega-touring holds out the tantalizing prospect of one day seeing Turner in more intimate settings, where everything doesn't have to be played to the max. ‘Tina--Up Close and Personal’? There's an idea.

>TINA TURNER CONCERT REVIEW:SAN DIEGO, 30 March 00.

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">“After four decades in the business, 60-year-old (Tina) Turner seems immune to the damage rock’n roll can do,” said The San Diego Union-Tribune. “How does she do it? Maybe it’s the muscles you get from 40 years of strutting in sky-high stilettos. Or the lung power that comes from 29 years of singing ‘Proud Mary’ like you just discovered it that morning. Or the stamina you acquire after years of carrying the weight of…concert extravaganzas on your own sensible shoulders.”

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">“Turner did all of the above, and she made it look criminally easy. Turner sang new songs with redemptive passion, brought oldies blazing back to life, and put her own distinctive mark on songs you thought could never belong to anyone but their original owners.”

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">“Her hyperactive (stage) setup made the tireless singer work harder than she should have to, but to watch her upstate a giant video screen with a flash of her killer smile…is to be in the presence of the best ring master in the business. It may be a circus, but it’s Tina’s circus. And there is no mistaking who is the center ring.”

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">TINA TURNER CONCERT REVIEW:PHOENIX, 27 April 00

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">“Anyone who knows Tina Turner knew how she was going to go out when her final arena tour swept through Phoenix on Thursday night,” The Arizona Republic explained. “The sultry dynamo didn't disappoint, going out with a glitzy, gutsy bang.”

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">“Bathed in good vibrations from a sold-out crowd, many of whom have witnessed the ups and downs of her four-decade career, the 60-year-old singer did her best to make everyone believe that, as one of her new songs says, ‘Absolutely Nothing's Changed.’"

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">“Her mix of deep, rich declarations and piercing shrieks returned, as did the amazing physique that makes women two decades younger envious. The thick mane of tinted hair again got a workout, and the stage effects were state of the art. Multiple costume changes showcased her famous legs and amazingly, as always, she danced non-stop in spiked heels.”

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">“Performing with a top-flight, six-piece band that featured soaring twin guitars and five of the sexiest dancer-singers onstage today, Turner strutted and sweated her way across the futuristic three-level stage set. She delighted in observing that ‘we've got a lot of girls in the house,’ but then told the guys that ‘I like it (their singing - wink, wink) rough.’"

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">TINA TURNER NEWS:THE TWENTY FOUR SEVEN WORLD TOUR

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">As you might expect, the “Twenty Four Seven World Tour” promises to be nothing short of spectacular, as she performs signature hits that span her entire career. High-octane versions of early R&B hits like “A Fool In Love” and “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine” will be included, as will 1980’s platinum-plus sellers such as “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “Private Dancer,” and her current work featured on the Twenty Four Seven album.

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">Speaking of which, Twenty Four Seven is the quintessential Turner album, full of the vivacity and verve that audiences have come to expect from the queen of the divas. The album was released in Europe in October of 1999 and has already sold over 2 million copies. It’s lead track, “When The Heartache Is Over,” was co-written by John Reid of the Nightcrawlers and Graham Stack, and produced by Brian Rawling and Mark Taylor, the team behind Cher’s multi-million success “Believe.” Billboard magazine recently called the song “so scintillating,” that it marks the “…worldwide return of one of contemporary music’s greatest achievers and most-cherished performers.”

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">What more could a true diva-watcher want? The “Twenty Four Seven Tour” is a historic comeback and a swan song all rolled in to one! In addition, Ms. Turner has invited Lionel Richie to support her for the entire tour. With this in mind, consider this to be a call to the music world’s ever-growing crowd of divas:

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">Have a seat, Tina Turner is back.

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">TINA TURNER TOUR DIARY:MINNEAPOLIS, 24 March 00

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">Tina Turner kicked off her Twenty Four Seven World Tour on March 24th at the sold-out Target Center in Minneapolis. Showcasing her vocal versatility rather than the over-the-top belting of her past, the diva’s diva actually sat down to sing the Beatles’ “Help,” while accompanied only by a piano. She also transformed "Better Be Good to Me" into an affirming, soulful epic.

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">During the show, Ms. Turner also covered Sly Stone's "I Want to Take You Higher," the Beatles' "Get Back," Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness," and Sam & Dave's "Hold on, I'm Comin'." At one point, while she changed outfits, one of Tina’s backup singers (and former E.R. star) Gloria Reuben sang "Baby, I'm a Star," not realizing that the song's composer, Prince, was sitting at the soundboard, watching!

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">Back to Tina Turner, other highlights included a slow, soulful rendering of "Heard It Through the Grapevine," and the piano-propelled "Proud Mary." Turner sang four songs from her new album, as well as such classics as "River Deep, Mountain High." For the record, she wore ten different outfits.

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">TINA TURNER TOUR NEWS:LIONEL RICHIE OPENS THE SHOW

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">How does Lionel Richie feel about touring with Tina Turner? "She's one of a kind,” he told Manhunt.com, “And she's been through all of the stuff I have. She knows what highs and lows make up this business. She's a comfort and a thrill to watch, all at the same time. Besides, she tells even better stories than I do."

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">"I really don't get to enjoy what I've accomplished unless I'm performing the songs,” he said of touring in general. “The love that an audience gives you makes you realize what your songs have meant to them. It truly humbles you."

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">TINA TURNER NEWS: “I WANT TO GO OUT ON A HIGH”

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">"There comes a point where it is just undignified to be a rock and roll star," Tina Turner recently told Britain’s TV Times. “I want the Twenty-Four Seven Tour to be the biggest and the best because it is going to be the last … I want to go out on a high. I don't want to be dragging myself onstage year in year out until someone else tells me it is time to go."

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">TINA TURNER NEWS:HER FINAL TOUR

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">Strutting her sexy legs and sultry voice, the legendary Tina Turner is back on stage for the first time since 1996. Adding to the excitement, meanwhile, is Ms. Turner’s announcement that this will be the last major tour of her illustrious career. Sure, the diva’s diva will continue to record (and perform an occasional concert), but this is the world’s last sure chance to experience the on-stage fireworks of Tina Turner.

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">"This will be my final big stadium rock tour,” she said upon the tour’s announcement. “I want to change my working habits... smaller, you know, less is more, that kind of thing."

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">But Tina Turner made it clear that she wasn't yet considering retirement from the music scene: "I will be out there,” she smiled, “I'll go on to do something else... but I don't know when I'm finishing."

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">TINA TURNER NEWS:NEW ALBUM SCORES HIGHEST DEBUT EVER

ALIGN="JUSTIFY">Released on February 1, Twenty-Four Seven, Tina Turner’s latest album, entered the Billboard “Top 200 Albums Chart” at Number 21. The debut marks her highest album bow in her thirty-year career, either as a solo artist or as a partner with her former husband Ike Turner. Twenty-Four Seven sold over 60,000 units in its first week, not only ensuring the artist's record-setting entry, but also representing her highest one-week sales ever since the inception of Soundscan.ALIGN="JUSTIFY"> ALIGN="JUSTIFY">Tina Turner tickets for Helsinki Aug. 9 & 10 . WHAT'S AGE GOT TO DO WITH IT?

By C. Bottomley

Tina Turner certainly doesn't look like she's ready to quit just yet. The 60-year-old megastar knocked Minneapolis on its rear when she opened her final North American tour there last night. Fans watched the Opening Night Live on VH1 and the webcast on VH1.com.

And they liked what they saw. "I must say that I was very impressed at the way Tina Turner performed on her opening night concert," one viewer emailed us. "It's been years since I've seen her. Many people slow down after they reach a certain age, but not Tina. She had so much energy!" Another concurred: "All I can say is she is awesome, and a very attractive older lady. Why quit when you have got what she's got." Tina was ready to look back as she opened her show at Minneapolis' Target Center before a nearly 13,000-strong audience. "I' m going to take you on the journey of my career," she said. "Isn't that fun?" Fans were unlikely to disagree as Turner sang the hits from 1960's "A Fool In Love" to 1984's "What's Love Got to Do With It" to new material from her album 24-7 via classics like "Proud Mary" and "River Deep, Mountain High." There was a smattering of cover versions as well, including the Beatles' "Help," Sly Stone's "I Want to Take You Higher" and Marvin Gaye's smoldering "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." The diva was backed by a seven-piece band, dancers and two backup singers that included Gloria Reuben, who left her job as an actress on E.R. to sing with her heroine. Reuben told USA Today about how she was preparing for the mammoth tour, which will take Tina just about everywhere over the next few months as she says goodbye to her faithful audience. "In [rehearsals], we were singing and dancing all day, and I was just in awe. She just celebrated her 60th birthday! I get down on my knees and pray, please, let me be this fantastic!" For the encore, Turner mounted a retractable platform that took her out over the ground. It was a rare resort to gimmickry in a show that was mostly about Turner's unmistakable soul and, let's be honest, the best pair of legs in the business. Those who made it to Minneapolis, including a duo who traveled all the way from Keflavik, Iceland to see Tina, were not disappointed. Junies Humphrey, who has been following her career since 1960, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "I think she has more energy now than even back then." A 43-year-old man who turned up dressed as his idol, complete with heels and a large wig, praised the diva. "She' s more beautiful than ever before, and I love her because she' s a survivor," he said. "I really hope she does 'Let' s Stay Together,' because that' s what' s happened between the public and her."
