London and Southern England
This itinerary is based on a 29 day tour made in April 2001.
April was very cold, often windy and wet almost half the time. We had enough warm clothing to deal with this but we still managed to buy some more along the way. Umbrellas are not common here - the wind is probably a good reason for this. Instead, people rely more on a lightweight raincoat which can be shaken off and folded away.
When you have a base in London or in the countryside, you should be flexible about what you do on particular days. For example, go to Kew Gardens, Hampton Court, Windsor Castle, etc on bright sunny days to see them at their best.

Similarly, pick up London Train and Bus Travel Passes as soon as you arrive in London - it is much cheaper and convenient to use the passes. We bought seven day passes covering all six zones which allowed us to travel as far as Hampton Court.
