Day 6 - London
This morning we headed across Green Park to Buckingham Palace in time for the Changing of the Guard.  This is a very musical and colourful event with marching bands, horses and brilliant uniforms.  It sounds a bit corny but seeing this tradition and pageantry is well worth putting up with the crowds.  There are plenty of vantage points including along The Mall as the Horse Guards and marching bands go by.

We then walked through
St James Park to arrive at the Horse Guards where you can get close up to the guards and their horses.

We followed this with a leisurely lunch before arriving at the
Royal Mews which has restricted opening hours.  For us they were open from 12 noon to 4pm but only on Wednesday and Thursday.  You should check this in advance.

The
Mews are an excellent attraction - not only are there working stables within heritage buildings, they are also the home of all the Royal carriages and coaches including the Gold Coach of State used for Royal marriages and other major celebrations.

We took the tube to
Covent Garden (there is no escalator - use the lift and not the 200 steps).  There is a lot of bargain shopping to be found here as well as many unusual and less mainstream shopping experiences.  We thought The Tintin Shop was worth a visit but only if you know who this early comic book character is.

There are also well known markets at
Covent Garden.

This was not a very taxing day so a night out on the town was very welcome.

Tomorrow is the last day in
London and the time to visit those places not otherwise on this tour list.
