| Last night we arrived back in London after a rather pleasant train trip through the countryside from Canterbury. We stayed at an excellent mid price hotel in a recently refitted Grosvenor building in a quiet private tree lined street with its own extensive gardens. This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. We had time to do some last minute shopping nearby, picking up those final souvenirs for family and friends that you tend to leave to the very last minute. Normally, we would do this last minute shopping at the airport but this time we were determined to have everything before the airport. For much the same price as a taxi fare we took a chauffeured hire car, ordered the night before, to Heathrow for the start of the journey home. There are some tourists whose visit to Great Britain is so short that they literally do England on Monday, Scotland on Tuesday .....etc. We feel that 29 days in London and the south of England gave us a good taste of what this part of the country has to offer but our trip was by no means comprehensive and we were left wishing for more time. There are many places to be revisited another time and other places we missed this time - we've got them on our list |
